Cameron ex students from Yoe High led a UT ranking among 200 plus accredited schools. Only thirteen scored higher on average with four Cameron alumni among those listed. Mary Jo Harlan Minnie Agnes Wolf Alta Klawansky and Hubert Mewhinney were UT students in this ranking.
Highway report at 11 a m notes general passable roads but heavy in spots. C Y M A A from Dallas urges motorists to travel to Houston via Waco Budholts Cameron Hearne to avoid mud between Waco and Bremond. Roads beyond San Antonio are impassable.
Billie Wallace addressed the Lions Club on the Highway Safety campaign with school students. Rev E S Hutcherson new Baptist pastor and Paris Lions member spoke to Cameron Lions. Charter night Friday will feature Col Louis C Perry Texas New Mexico Arizona governor and Col P L Downs of Temple as speakers. Meeting set in the Methodist basement with Commercial Club invited.
A Saturday night community supper near Ben Arnold drew about a thousand attendees. Speakers included Rev. Graham former Catholic priest and Dr. John L Denson of Cameron. Attendees from Cameron included Dr James Watson Sheriff Drue Rogers and Deputy N O Kennedy. Oysters and hot tamales were served and the event was praised for neighborly spirit.
Dan Davis Jr of Sharp attended the football game on Monday. Mr and Mrs W E Gaither and their daughter from Rockdale visited Dr and Mrs James Watson on Sunday. Mrs M A Baggerfly of Wokaty is a Cameron Hospital patient.
Mandatory notice urging residents to pay poll tax for 1924 elections in Milam County Texas. Highlights deadline January 31 1924 and that offices from city to president will be elected next year with city county state and national elections scheduled throughout the year.
The Commercial Club ordered the good roads committee to prepare petitions for a county wide election raising road tax from four to fifteen cents. If approved the main tenance tax would rise eleven cents, funding gravel road upkeep amid rising traffic. A separate plan seeks school bonds and a sewage plant, increasing overall taxes about one dollar per hundred. Dismissing congregations, Cameron churches heard Rev FH Hutcherson preach at the Baptist church, baptism was administered, and next Sunday worship shifts to the Baptist morning service with farewell at the Methodist church led by Rev Ira Key.
Strickland Brothers of Coryell County exhibit a mare mule and her colt in Cameron near the McDermott News by the fire station. Spectators note the pair resemble twins in all respects except size and flock to view the stock for sale.
H Pollard received a cable from O K Williams in Cuba requesting a pup from his famous kennels of bird dogs. The check for the dog is said to be in transit. The Cameron breed's fame spreads as the young dog is prepared for shipment to Cuba.
Before the largest Yoemen crowd at Yoemen Park, Yoe High overwhelm Rockdale 53 to 0. Unk Young and Captain Joe Hefley star, with Moody Graham and Boykin leading a fierce line and Childress executing a 90 yard punt. Rockdale’s Sharp Rosenburg and Harding provide the best resistance.
Cameron urged road safety reform as fifth to seventh graders led by Mrs. Kathryn Robins promote careful driving and walking. Posters and essays circulate through schools, Lions Club backs the effort, and prizes lure best lessons and essays with trips to Washington.
Tonight will be fair and colder inland with Friday continuing fair. Rain was general across Texas. Mr. and Mrs. B M Belk and Mrs. Blanche Jacobs of Dallas visited T W Aycock in Cameron this week.
The Crimson of Yoe High School demolished Rockdale with a 53 to 0 win on Monday. Unk Young starred as punter and fullback, scoring seventeen points in two quarters and converting every goal kick. A massive crowd filled Lawless Green field as Yoe fans celebrated a decisive, celebration-filled triumph marked by crimson Y formations and rallying cheers.
The finance committee and school board officials discuss issuing school bonds for 30 years to save about 15000 in interest, with a nominal tax rate rise as bonds retire. Petition for property owners will be prepared for signatures ahead of November 20 council meeting when election is ordered. The board favors 30 year bonds over 40 despite lower immediate tax rate on 40 year plan.
