October rainfall reached 11.52 inches with November continuing light rains totaling about 1.25 inches at presstime. County agent J D Moore notes ground conditions, ongoing cotton scrap removal, and about 3,000 bales of cotton affected by recent rains. Pecan crop boosted by moisture as forecasts suggest up to 60 inches of rain possible this year.
Sharp School closed last week due to flu with classes halted October 29 and resumed Monday. County officials report about 53 cases in Sharp and around 50 in Cameron while other county schools remained open. Immunizations have been inconsistent with few taking anti Asian flu shots.
In Cameron on Tuesday relatives and friends gathered for the funeral service of Mrs. A J Matochas. Attending were Mr and Mrs H S Schieffer from Waco Rev and Mrs Frank Newton from Bellaire Albert Mondrik from Bryan Louis Mondrik from San Antonio and Mrs Helen Marak and her child from Velasco.
The weatherman forecasts cloudy skies with possible showers today and the weekend. Milam County records show 1.25 inches of rain fell in the first three days of the week and temperatures ranged from 90 to 54 over the past seven days.
Fourteen men reported for registration in October at the Milam County local board. Names listed include John David Thompson, Ruben Lee, Lee Baxter Davis, and others. The board resumes mailing questionnaires and classifying young registrants born in June 1937, with potential reach to 18 year olds. Address changes do not alter jurisdiction. files stay in Milam. A December induction is planned for one Milam County registrant, with a November induction possible.
The Cameron Kiwanis Club announces a Pancake Supper from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Simon George Hall. President Ed Laywell says tickets are 50 cents each, with about 400 expected attendees. Milk is donated by Oak Farms and flour by Pioneer.
North Milam County workers push the United Fund drive to reach $11 300 by November 15. The campaign began Friday in Cameron and 14 other communities with chairmen named for each area. Agencies receiving funds include Boy Scouts Girl Scouts Salvation Army Heart Fund Red Cross library fund and local charities. The motto is Give a day s pay.
Buckholts High School crowns two sophomore sweethearts at halftime of the Sharp Buckholts game. Jeanette Fuchs, daughter of Mr and Mrs Johnny Fuchs, is band sweetheart and Carolyn Mekush, daughter of Mr and Mrs, is football team sweetheart. James Edward Glaser escorts Fuchs. Le land Weido and Lamar Gresak escort Mekush. runner-up for band sweetheart is Mary Svetlik.

The Texas Highway Department will spend 10075 dollars in 1958 to upgrade FM 2347 Milam County under the supervision of District Engineer C B Thames The State Highway Commission approved the appropriation as part of a 20 million statewide farm road program covering 183 counties The Milam project covers 3 6 miles of added surface on FM 2347 from US 190 North
Trades Day gets underway at 3 30 p m with Chamber President Henry Liebman noting the event. The Trades Treasure Chest opens four times Thursday for free prizes of 10 15 25 and 50 dollars. The big 150 dollar prize at 4 30 remains unclaimed for two weeks, boosting today’s stakes.
Firemen extinguished a second story garage fire at 402 North Central in the James Wiggs residence with damage limited to the roof and attic furniture. A nearby Dewey MacFlwrath home roof suffered slight damage. Other calls included a smoke bomb at Duncum Motors and a vacant West Main home fire that left R. M. Johnson’s house a total loss from faulty wiring. A truck fire west of Buckholts destroyed the vehicle and 75 bales of cotton. Cameron volunteers aidedWise family praise for quick work.
Milam County backed all three amendments in a light Tuesday vote across 39 precincts. Total turnout 879 in 32 boxes with Amendment 8 leading for a 200 million loan fund for flood control and water conservation. Amendments 1 and 2 also carried strongly. County officials cited weather and low interest as factors in the light turnout.
Cameron football players rested after a 26-6 loss to Killeen as flu injuries lingered. Coach Leo Jackson reports no new injuries and a return to school with light drills and planned heavier practices if weather allows. Cameron faces Waco University High on November 18 and remains in 9AAA title contention only if all teams post identical records.
Mrs J D Turney of seven miles east of Cameron killed a three foot rattlesnake with a pitchfork in her yard this week. The reptile, found in the yard, had six rattles.
Cameron PTA session led by Don Humble in Cameron focuses on responsible parents partnering with teachers to raise responsible youth. Mrs. K E Davis Jr gives a devotional as the group observes National Youth Appreciation Week.
Bids for a 175000 sewer bond issue and Cameron sewer plant work were approved by the City Council. Bond bids open November 19 at City Hall, plant bid opening set for December 3. Federal funds exceed 50000 and construction must start by January 1958.
An anonymous caller warned of a bomb at a Rockdale school on Monday triggering evacuation of four campuses. About 1,400 students were sent home while a similar Groesbeck prank circulated Tuesday. Authorities traced no source and cleared sites by 3 p.m.
Cameron proceeds from the Killeen Cameron football game totaled 965.43 with 63.10 from program sales. Superintendent Wiley Loughmiller confirmed the figures and noted the Killeen Quarterback Club forwarded the extra amount from program sales.
