Bill Burns says plans are moving toward completion for the Can cron Industrial Foundation fund drive to support latest industrial prospects. A kickoff is expected soon with details to follow.
G S Moss of Rockdale has been named police chief for the City of Cameron and began work Wednesday. Moss retired as Rockdale police chief last year after 52 years in the South Milam city and has also served in Bryan and the Freeport area.
The Fighting Yoemen meet the Giddings Buffaloes on Yow Field to close district play. Giddings backs a veteran line but light weight at guard and tackle. 11 lettermen return with 3 offensive and 4 defensive starters. District IWAA crown at stake as Cameron squad faces its last district game. Go Get em Yoe.
Rev. Wirt Skinner, a Union Theological Seminary graduate, is appointed pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Cameron. He previously served as associate pastor in Scotland and hails from Decatur Georgia. The family moved into the parsonage at 661 East 6th Street on Wednesday.
Cameron authorities await final reports on illness among about 70 Ada Henderson School students linked to cafeteria meals from turkey sandwiches. Sanitation inspector Holcombe indicates probable staphylococcus poisoning caused by improper refrigeration and warm meat, noting precautions and space limits at the kitchen.
F L Gregory announces a groundbreaking at Newton Memorial Hospital for a 22 room addition with 4 beds. The ceremony Friday at 2 pm will feature NMH Board members and Harold Warren, with Chandler Construction of Hearne handling the project expected to finish in about five months. The current 1962 building houses 35 beds and various facilities funded by private contributions, not government money.
Building permits issued for September and October in Cameron totaled 63 492 featuring remodels and additions. Plans include a new 30 by 90 foot dry cleaning plant at 6th and Fannin by Johnny Springer, who will move Cammer's Cleaners to that site by January 1.
Milam County farmers face a national grain diversion program aimed at cutting 30 million acres while boosting farm income by about 400 million. Milam ASCS estimates 1967 Milam grain prices were strong due to early harvest demand, but 1968 may bring lower prices with a surplus. Diversion payments for corn and maize offer per-bushel figures plus yield-based bonuses, depending on participation.
High winds and a thunderstorm knocked out telephone service for about 600 residents Sunday night when lightning hit a cable in Cameron. Southwestern Bell sent a repair crew from Temple to restore service, with all phones reportedly working by Wednesday night. The storm also disrupted a Texas Power & Light transmission line, causing flickering power as temperatures dropped from 85 to 54.
Mrs. F B Durnie 73 of Cameron died 5 a m Wednesday October 25 after a heart attack. Born September 21 1894 at Gay Hill she lived in Milam County 50 years and was member of First Presbyterian Church. Funeral at Marek Burns 1 p m Friday with Rev John Solomon officiating burial Oak Hill Cemetery. Survivors include husband F B Durnie one son Albert Durnie four daughters Marcella Williams Selma Spicak Ida Juergens Lucille Wood seven grandchildren. Pallbearers named A W Rettiz Otto Kelm Hubert Marek J J Heitman Carl Black Grady Allen.

J A Provasek 65 died after falling from a deer stand about 30 feet high near New Baden Thursday October 26 He was a Cameron ISD bus official Funeral services were held at Hope Lutheran Church Buckholts with Rev Glenn Moehring and burial at Oak Hill Cemetery Survivors include his wife two sons a daughter four brothers and four sisters listed with locales. Mrs Hughes reports a persimmon tree at 204 N Austin bearing clusters like grapes with orange persimmons. At 1501 W 7th St watermelons ripen weighing 15 to 20 pounds. A seed planted by Ruth Canady and family at 1301 W 7th St produced three large melons past season.
Cameron officials announce a new Katacomb Teen Club to open after remodeling at 1st and Central St. The center will offer recreation and lounge space for Cameron youths aged 13 to 19 in grades 8 through 12. Membership will be by election for full time Cameron students.
Jesse Clay Mathews age 27 of 760 Rockdale Road Rockdale was killed when his 1960 International truck owned by Riley Gillan veered off SH 29 six miles west of Georgetown at 5 30 a m. The truck hit a culvert and trees, the trailer crushed the cab, entombing Mathews who was freed after more than an hour.
The Cameron PTA meets at 7 30 p m in the Ben Milam Cafetorium with police officers discussing Encouraging Respect for Law and Order The event features a short program by Mrs Schussler s 3rd grade class Refreshments will be served and baby sitting provided
