City Council discussed a $40,000 plan to rebuild the fire station and house city government and services. Firemen split on location. a delegation appeared at Tuesday night meeting as debates over placing the structure on the current site continue.

Wounded-in-action report for Pfc Mortimer

Mrs Helen Mortimer of Cameron received a telegram stating Pfc F W Mortimer was wounded in action. The message from General C B Cates said he was wounded in May near Chuncheon eight miles below the parallel and expected to move up soon. Mrs Mortimer was told she would be informed of his condition as available.

Battery C 649th Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion prepares two weeks of National Guard summer camp at Camp Polk Louisiana starting June 10. Equipment moves by truck and rail, with most personnel traveling by special train. Batteries return June 25, and the unit seeks enlistees aged 17 to 35 at the armory. Milam County Weighs Multi Million Dollar Aluminum Plant

Congressman Bob Poage reports Milam County as a possible site for a large aluminum plant using lignite for cheap power. He cautions the decision is not definite though Texas Power & Light engineers study the option. The plant could employ about 1000 people first year. Poage traveled through Houston en route to Waco.

Building activity rises in Cameron for May

May building permits in Cameron totaled 12250 dollars, up from 6360 dollars last month. The Coca-Cola Bottling Company and George Hollas contributed sizable portions of the permits, with more activity and an expected rise next month. Small house repairs complemented major improvements.

Drunk Driving Fines for Two Rockdale Men

Horace Cummings and Hubert Mitchell were tried in County Court Monday for driving while drunk. Each was fined $50 plus court costs and had driving licenses suspended for six months.

Beverly Ann King Wins Dancing Scholarship

Seven year old Beverly Ann King earned the Ruth Jane Byrom School of Dancing scholarship after a year of ballet and tap lessons. The award covers one year of free dancing lessons and follows her May 25 recital presented by Mrs. Byrom. Beverly Ann is the daughter of Jack King of Texas City and resides with her aunt and uncle, Mr and Mrs Henry Dreyer in Cameron.

Nen-Texas cooling showers refresh area farms

A total of 2.02 inches of rainfall fell Sunday reported by L W Smith local weather observer. Farmers welcomed the moisture as crops advance but underground reserves were weak and pastures needed soaking rain to sustain cattle through summer. Two Whitney residents died.

Car overturns near Rosebud injures no one

Jesse Ford of Dallas lost control of his 1949 Ford within Rosebud city limits and overturned near a cleaning shop. Ford was uninjured though his car suffered substantial damage. the incident occurred Monday night at 8 45 p m.

Night Deputy Dick Harriss Dies After Heart Attack

Dick Harriss 52 a Cameron night deputy sheriff died at St Edward Hospital at 2 40 AM Sunday June 3 1951 after a heart attack near Cheeves Brothers Store. He had served as night deputy for fifteen months and was a Milam County native born August 26 1898. Funeral at First Baptist Church June 4 with interment Oak Hill Cemetery. Surviving are his widow Gertrude Harriss mother Mrs A W Harriss two brothers Eugene and O D Harriss and four nieces. Pallbearers included Mann Arnold and others.

Lawrence Holt Sentenced Five Years For Robbery With Firearms

Lawrence E Holt received a five year prison term after conviction for robbery with firearms. He allegedly held up the Anderson Liquor Store on Temple Highway on April 18. Holt, defended by F R Valentine of Waco, faces an indictment in Williamson County for a similar charge and will be tried there soon. The District Court trial featured an impaneled jury and testimony began earlier in the day with District Attorney Ed Guan for the State.
