Diplomas for 109 Graduates Here

Clyde Red Malicoat of Rogers was buried alive for four hours when a well he was cleaning caved in on the John Thompson farm west of Rogers. Rescuers freed him with old curbing wedged above his head, and he survived with minimal injury. The accident drew a large crowd as workers dug, with assistance from John Bigham Sam Whatley E R Underwood Shorty Shaw and Oscar Krause.

Miss Minnie Bartholomew resigns as Milam County Home Demonstration Agent after six years of service. Bertha Fae Strange appointed to succeed her, bringing training from Brownwood and prior colleges and currently based at Mrs. Tom Denson’s home with offices at the post office.

Cameron Colored School will hold graduation exercises Friday evening June 2 at Bethel A M E Church. The eight boys and sixteen girls include Billie Burke president and Lucybelle Williams salutatorian. H B Estelle will deliver the class address and J Thomas, principal, was elected president of the Prairie View College alumni association.

Rogers Youth Slain in Highway Shooting

Garnet Beardon of Rogers, age 17, was fatally shot on a Milam County highway near Wire Bridge Friday night May 26. Harry Rogers of Rogers is jailed in Milam awaiting grand jury action. an examining trial is pending and bond has not been set. Bearden died at Temple Sanitarium. funeral services were held Sunday. He is survived by his father two brothers and eight sisters.

School Honors Awarded In Yee High and Ada Henderson

Martin Manning son of Mr and Mrs Manning received highest honors in Yee High School class of 1933. Julian Freeman son of Mr and Mrs Freeman and Ruby Harris girl class top honors. Wynnelle Kidd daughter of Mr and Mrs Kidd had top seventh grade average and will give the valedictory. Helen Ryan daughter of Mr and Mrs Ryan is the class salutatorian with second highest record.

Trial of J C Tucker Begins in Bell Co

J C Tucker former Cashier and Vice President of Cameron State Bank faces embezzlement charges in Belton District Court. The bank closed December 17 1951 after shortages involving funds from the American Legion account. Jury seated and testimony started amid venue disputes and requests to transfer to Milam or Caldwell counties.

Mrs. Mary Stedman 62 Dies After Six Months Ill

Mrs. Mary Stedman aged 62 died Wednesday afternoon May 31 at her Cameron home after a six month illness. The funeral was held Thursday at 3 pm at her residence with J E B Buttrill officiating. Burial followed in Big Elm Cemetery with Coleman and Eplen in charge. She was born June 24, 1871 in Milam County.

Milam County Seventh Grade Graduation Held at Yee High

Milam County held its first county wide seventh grade graduation at Yee High School with 265 students completing the program. 175 diplomas were presented by Thomas A. Wisher as heavy rains kept some students away. The event featured music by Cameron Municipal Band, remarks by County Superintendent Kathryn K. Robbins, and honors in rural boys and girls declamation.

County Board Postponed to June 12

The county board meeting has been postponed from June 5 to June 12 due to heavy workload at the County Superintendent's office. The state will delay school classifications until the July meeting on the first Monday.

Open Air Exercises Highlight Cameron Public Schools Graduation

The Cameron Public Schools cap off the 1992-93 session with 109 graduates, the largest class in history, as diplomas are awarded Monday. Ada Henderson school will confer 80 promotion certificates Friday, with Edwin Hardy Post American Legion citizenship medals also given. Baylor professor O B Herring will preach the Baccalaureate on Sunday, June 4 at First Methodist, followed by Yee High School graduation on Monday, June 5 on campus. Seating for 1500 is prepared. seniors lead most of the program with a pageant replacing a traditional address.

Double Funeral for Milam Pioneers

The remains of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sneed were brought to Cameron by rail and taken to Rosebud where they were entombed in Rosebud cemetery. Mr. Sneed died in Rockport years ago and Mrs. Sneed died May 26 in a Corpus Christi hospital. The couple, longtime Rosebud residents and Milam County figures, were buried together with several relatives accompanying the procession from Cameron to Rosebud.

Round-Up Pre-School Pupils at Sumner Ada Henderson School

Health Committee of Camer on P T A sponsored the annual Sumner Round-Up for pre-school children held Thursday at Ada Henderson School. Mrs W R Newton chaired with Dr James Watson Arthur Kruse and Dr W R Newton assisting, nurses Marek Yager Sharp and Good weighed and measured, while P T A members handled records. The program aligns with the National Congress of P T A and AMA to promote healthy bodies for future citizens.
