Jail Break in Milam County: Four Escapees Face Charges
Four of five men who escaped Milam County jail on May 9 face charges. Clyde Wallace and Frank Barfield are charged with escaping. William D. Williams and Sammy Morgan with car theft. Johnny Delasco remains in custody. all five are back in Milam County Jail.

City council accepted bids for sewer extension materials in south Cameron. Cameron Lumber Company and Alamo Machine Supply Co. of Waco were low bidders. Work to start upon material arrival. council also approved roofs for the park pavilion and the equalization report.

The Cameron School Board approves a three year desegregation program under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The plan phases in grades 1 5 9 11 in 1965 66 and adds remaining grades by 1967 68. Students may attend any school of choice with transfer written by parent.

Floods Hit Milam County Crops and Pastures Hard
Heavy four to six inch rains flood Milam County bottomlands damaging cotton maize corn watermelon tomatoes and pasture land. Elm Creek watershed losses cited at about 430000 to 585000 dollars with fences livestock and roads costing tens of thousands. Replanting possible for cotton but corn largely lost and water recedes will determine final damages.
Milam County Flood Worsens as Rivers Rise and Roads Close
Milam County faces worst flooding since 1957 with Little River at 35 feet and several creeks overflowing. Flooded land spans up to 60,009 acres as FM roads 446 998 487 and 2269 close. Cameron schools monitor for potential tornado as Taylor area reports no major damage.

Cameron Library Building Project Receives Final Approval
Cameron Library project in Texas gains final approval from the Texas State Library with $40,000 federal funds to be matched locally for an $80,000 facility. The approval and allotment were announced by Elizabeth Hughey and noted by Dorman Winfrey. Construction becomes effective May 6, 1965, with bids to be called by June 15 and bids let in early July per architect David Carnahan and Perrin library board member.

Rep Milton Schiller advances two measures in Austin: a state loan program for municipal airport construction with a 2000000 appropriation planned for next biennium and a 700000 fund from unclaimed gas tax refunds to aid smaller communities. A second bill moves Robertson County from the 85th to the 20th Judicial District, effective Sept 1 1965, joining Milam County and leaving Brazos County in the 85th. district population totals 38000 versus Brazos 55000.

Aid Available To Flooded Milam Burleson Areas
Farmers and ranchers in Milam and Burleson Counties hit by floods can obtain emergency loans from the Farmers Home Administration. Loans cover flood damaged cropland fences terraces and pastures and replacement of lost productive livestock. Loans are for those unable to secure private credit and carry 3 percent interest repayable in one year.

Zeigler Resigns As Cameron School Superintendent
Cameron School Superintendent Charles Zeigler resigns to take a similar post in Cleveland. He will leave June 30 and plans to start in early July. Zeigler has led Cameron Schools for four years after arriving in 1980 from Oglesby. He is a Gatesville native with degrees from Texas A&M and his wife Mrs Zeigler also resigns from special education duties.
