North Milam Banks Report April 66 Asset Gains

North Milam County banks Citizens National Bank of Cameron First National Bank of Cameron and Buckholts State Bank reported total assets of 24 305 814 49 in the latest call up from 22 979 311 16 in April 1966 and 24 630 058 05 in the December 31 call. Citizens National Bank led with 15 535 741 37 assets, up 794 544 47. First National Bank stood at 7 353 947 74, up 417 452 51. Buckholts State Bank reported 1 416 125 38, up 114 506 35.

Temple Doctor to Speak at ACS Meeting in Cameron

Dr. James B. Chandler Jr. of Scott and White Hospital Temple will headline the American Cancer Society annual meeting in Cameron on Tuesday May 16. The 7:30 p.m. program at Cameron Public Library is open to the public.

Apparent Strike At Joe Martin Well Milam County

Milam County oil activity last week reports two events. The Luling Oil and Gas Company No 1 Joe Martin wildcat near Milano reached 2852 feet awaiting cement after pipe set. drilled to 3550 feet, permitted to 3600, on a 50 acre lease in S Vincent Survey six miles south of Milano. A previously drilled old Navarro gas well nearby produced 21 barrels per day after being plugged back to Navarro. The Shell No 2 Adoue Estate deep wildcat east Milam was plugged after a shallow Austin Chalk test failed. spudded in October 1966 to test Smackover and reached 14622 feet with a stuck pipe, producing only about 10 percent on test despite acidizing swabbing and sand frac.

Calvert Rites For C E Porter Calvert

C E Paul Porter of Calvert died Sunday May 7 in a Marlin hospital. He was born November 29 1900 in Branchville and was a farmer in the Calvert area. Funeral services were 4 pm Tuesday at First Baptist Calvert with Rev Cecil McBeth officiating. Burial in Calvert City Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. He is survived by his wife of Calvert one daughter Mrs Paul J Pryor of Jackson Mississippi one brother Baren Porter of Hearne one sister Mrs Roy Yates of Branchville and three grandchildren. Jackson and Smith Named Outstanding High School Seniors

Barbara Jackson and Steve Smith were chosen as Outstanding All-around Senior Girl and Boy by the high school faculty. Barbara, active in National Honor Society, Student Council, Junior Historians, Future Nurses Club, American Heritage Society, Band, and twirler, won Best Actress in the One Act Play. Smith serves as National Honor Society vice president, Student Council president, American Heritage Society president, and member of Interact Club and Slide Rule Club, with two football and three basketball letters.

Ten Historic Sites in Milam County Noted by Mary Batte

Milam historian Mary Belle Batte highlights ten significant Milam County sites including the Shap Ross house, the George Green house, Bryant Station, Old Nashville, the Post Massacre Site, Kim Creek Fight Site, the McCown house, Mission sites near San Gabriel, Port Sullivan, and Oxsheer Cemetery. Plaques are planned by the Texas Historical Association.

Cameron Chamber considers Teen Center steering panel

Cameron Chamber directors voted to form a steering committee to study a Teen Center in Cameron. President John B. Henderson Jr. led an hour long session at the Chamber Board Room. Carroll Glaser Becomes Associate At Camp Ellett Camp

Carroll Glaser, 24, of Buckholts, joins the law firm Camp Ellett Camp. A Milam County native and Buckholts High School 1960 graduate, he earned a BBA in 1964 and an LLB in January 1967 from the University of Texas. He will split offices between Rockdale and Cameron.

Grazing Association Planned in Milam County FHA Program

Milam County plans a Grazing Association tied to the Farmers Home Administration loan program. County Supervisor Henry N. Ivey reports 762 families have benefited from six water facility loans totaling 515,400 and one recreation loan in Thorndale. Additional water loans are planned for Milano Minerva Baileyville North Milam Gause Marlow and Branchville with more in planning.

Sunday Showing for Critically Acclaimed Documentary Film

Local Worker Electrocuted in Cameron

Frank Joe Zalesky, 40, of Cameron, died Tuesday about 4 45 p m in a storage shed at Eastern Seed Co after becoming entangled with a cable. Pathologist ruled accidental electrocution. Funeral 10 am Thursday at St Monica Church. He is survived by his mother, three sons, two daughters, two brothers, three sisters.
