Investigation Underway In Rogers Wreck
Investigators probe a head on collision near Rogers that killed B A Slavik five Cameron electrician and farmer and Temple City Attorney Joe Carroll Tuesday. Carroll died instantly. Slavik died at Scott and White Hospital. Officials say Carroll lost control on a curve on US 190 and crossed into the southbound lane striking Slavik’s pickup. Slavik was rescued after about 15 minutes and taken to hospital. Funeral services set for Slavik at St Cyril and Methodius Church in Marak with burial in Marak cemetery. He leaves a wife two sons and three daughters and five brothers. The death toll for the year rises with seven total deaths.

McKinney Heads to State Track Meet with Coach

Terhune Receives Outstanding Jaycee Award At Banquet
Jack Terhune was named Outstanding Jaycee and presented a bronze and walnut plaque at the annual Junior Chamber of Commerce banquet. Rev. John Geiser presented the award at Simon George Hall before more than 102 attendees. Terhune led the Jaycees through their first year and was cited for projects including Jaycee Road-Co, Toys for Toys, Town and Country Fair, and a Cameron Library building carnival. Road-eo Chairman Lawrence Jetter gave top prizes to Mack McKinney, Jack McKinney, and Patsy Marburger. New officers installed included Rev. Paul McCallum as president, with Lawrence Jetter as 1st VP, Charles Chandler 2nd VP, Wallace Small secretary, and Dr. John Martin treasurer. Milam County Banks See Spring Deposit Gains Across 64 Institutions
Milam County banks posted a spring deposit rise, totaling 4 million dollars plus, in the quarterly call for the close of April 26. Rockdale State Bank led gains at 692,076.05, while First National Bank of Cameron rose 112,402.19. Thi rd Bank deposits grew at Thorndale and Buckholts, with Citizens National Bank showing a decline from last year.

Oxford Oil Co. Drilling Tests On Minerva Field
The Oxford Oil Company completed its first shallow wildcat on the Tomlinson Estate track in Old Minerva field, drilled a second on Monday, and reached the oil sand late Tuesday afternoon. The B-3 wildcat reached 580 feet, hit oil sand at 512 feet with 14 feet of oil sand. Shell No. 1 Neil Ross was drilling at 12,920 feet four miles southwest of Gause with core and bit changes noted.

Milano Gause Highway Project Announced
The Texas Highway Commission announced reconstruction of a 5.9 mile section of U.S. Highway 79 in Milam County from 4.3 miles northeast of Milano to Gause. Estimated construction cost is $500,000 financed in the next Consolidated Highway Program.

Two Countians Sentenced in Li District Court
Nolan Webb of Rockdale was found guilty of felony theft and given three years in the state penitentiary for stealing merchandise from Heaven to Seventeen Shop in Rockdale on October 5, 1964. Freddie Lee Bradley of Cameron was convicted of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent and received two years in the state penitentiary for taking a car from P. J. Armstrong used car lot in January 1965.

Mrs McAnulty Saves Child's Life Here
Mrs F B McAnulty of Cameron is credited by St Edward Hospital officials for saving a child's life near EMIL on US 77. While two people struggled to revive the choking child, she dislodged the chip from the throat causing the child to vomit and survive.
