James E. Moore To Instruct Public Relations Course

James E. Moore, supervisory training specialist at Texas University, will lead a four day course on Public Relations in Cameron from May 3 to May 6. The program targets managers owners and employees in retail wholesale and service sectors with a small registration fee. Topics include You and Public Relations Seeing Yourself as Others See You Getting Along with People and Why People Behave as They Do. Moore has long experience in selling and sales management and holds two bachelor degrees including an A B A from the University of Texas and an M A from Texas Western College of the University of Texas.

Author Jesse Wilkerson Reflects on Boyhood to Books

The Cameron Herald printer turned author Jesse Wilkerson, now in Houston, recalls early days setting type by hand and writing stories. His boyhood near Cameron inspired Come Home Bill Bailey and Comrades of the Canyons, drawing on farm life, animals, and sports.

Milam Burleson Counties Honor FHA Administrator Ivey

Approximately 245 Milam and Burleson County residents attended a Friday night dinner at the Methodist Fellowship Hall honoring Henry N. Ivey, county supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration. Speaker Congressman W. R. Poage praised modern farming, while L. J. Cappleman cited county loans and housing totals totaling about 4.3 million dollars. Cappleman noted the unit boosted the two counties’ economy by over 20 million in two years.

Rogers High School Exes Celebrate Biannual Homecoming

Rogers packed homecoming events featured a big downtown parade with a freshman float winning best float. Duchess Carolyn Williams was crowned 1965 Homecoming Queen, with duchesses Bonni Farmer Caroline Vasicek and Toni Necas named for senior, junior and sophomore classes.

Storms Ignite Fires and Downed Lines Across Area

Thunderstorms lashed the region causing downed power and telephone lines on 600 North Central Street and in Ben Arnold. A barn on Jesse Weige’s farm burned completely after a lightning strike, while Cameron firefighters contained the blaze to the barn and machinery. Earlier, a sawdust fire behind the Merak Community Center caused no damage. Origin of the fires remains undetermined.

Wife Charged In Mate's Shooting at Cameron

Annie Louise Knight, 30, of Cameron is charged with assault with intent to murder for the April 23 shooting of her husband Huptert Knight during a domestic argument at their West Sixth Street home. Knight, hit once in the abdomen, was treated at Newton Memorial and McClosky Hospitals. condition improved. Knight works at Alcoa Rockdale Works and owns the Ebony Club in Cameron. she is free on bond. the case goes to the next Grand Jury.

Jaycee Banquet Set For Saturday

Cameron Jaycees announce their annual banquet set for Saturday May 1 at Simon George Hall starting 7 p.m. Rev Fred Bomer will speak and be installed as temple Jaycees president and Texas Jaycee State Chaplain. New officers include Paul McCallum as president and Jack Terhune as master of ceremonies with others named for vice president secretary and treasurer. Awards will be given for the Jaycee Road-eo with Mick and Jack McKinney and Patsy Marourger earning top places. Mayor Bassel Wilson will offer remarks and tickets are sold by Jaycees. Outgoing officers and directors will be recognized for their first year as a chartered group. The club led Toys for Tots Carnival funded the Cameron library project and operated a midway at the Town & Country Fair.

Library Plans Second Application Approval Sought

Cameron library planners move to file the second state application after a Monday meeting. Er A Perrin says the plan covers land survey architects drawings a $40000 fund match and board appointment. The application goes to Austin for written approval with a projected bid let between June 15 and July 1.

Milam Grand Jury Indicts 15 in March Term

Milam County grand jury in a March 1965 session returned 17 indictments. Defendants include Johnny Seaton and James Seaton for assault with intent to order charges, alleged to have occurred near the Western Bar southwest of Cameron on April 4.

Milano Water System Bid Opening Set for May 12

Milano water project valued over 155000 dollars aims to serve 144 families with a 50000 gallon elevated tank and 101000 feet of pipeline. Bids will be opened May 12 at the Farmers Home Administration office in Cameron. Senator Yarborough and Congressman Poage confirmed project approval.

Councilmen Take Oath Of Office At Thursday Meet

Mayor Bassel Wilson administered the oath to incumbent councilmen Starrett Hickman J C Marek and new member Lawrence Zotz during a City Hall session. The council discussed airport plans and arranged for an FAA representative visit Cameron for study. They approved changes to speed zones on city highways and awarded the Cameron Swimming Pool operation to Merlin Lester Jr. A transfer of 1440 dollars was made to the Health Unit.
