Spot-Oil Control Of Johnson Grass On Cotton

Texas cotton growers across 104 counties used spot-oiling on 73 637 acres to combat Johnson grass last year. The method, praised by extension cotton specialist Fred C. Elliott, requires less hand labor, uses readily available oils, and employs a simple gravity sprayer. A crown oiling with half naphtha and diesel followed by 4 6 applications yields about 98 percent control. Cost varies with infestation. Local agents can provide plats, sprayers, and copies of guidance B-808 and L-174.
