Smaller Towns Win Industrial Site for Cameron Plant

The Walled Lake Door Manufacturing company plans a new plant near Cameron, creating at least twenty jobs at start and to open by mid June. Colonel Jay Holmes notes full output already contracted, while President Quinn praises local cooperation and cites Cameron’s skilled labor pool as more stable than the former Gila Bend Arizona site. The facility will be built north of and adjoining the existing Walled Lake plant on the old Waco road.

Belton Journal Reports Texas Towns Eye Garment Plant

Texas towns Cameron Belton Enville Jacksboro Cooper and Clarksville are considered for a garment factory. The plant would employ 100 women with a $1.00 minimum wage and a $260000 annual payroll. Belton seeks capital to attract the industry as Cameron recently raised $40000 to outbid Belton.

Joe Richter Seeks Milam County Constable Office

Joe Richter a longtime Milam County peace officer entered his name as candidate for constable, precinct one in Cameron, following the death of Ben Bailey. Born July 25, 1893 at Elm Ridge, he is a Hardy American Legion Post charter member and a Veterans of Foreign Wars member, with a history as Cameron deputy marshal, city marshal in 1950, and service in the 90th Division.

Police Chief To Enforce Traffic Laws In Cameron

Willie L. Dolan 33 becomes Cameron's first chief of police taking over Monday. He vows strict traffic law enforcement with initial warnings, then disciplinary action, and continuous day night patrols. He is a war veteran with service in Germany Japan and Korea and retires as Chief Warrant Officer in 1954.

First Grade Registrants Due At Schools May 1

Registration of pupils beginning first grade for next year will be held at the Ben Milam Cafeteria on May 1 and 2 from 2 30 to 3 45 p.m. Principal Wiley Loughmiller said. Kiwanians Support Fund With Clyde Chesser Show

Cameron Kiwanis Club sponsors a Monday night Clyde Chesser Show at Simon and George Memorial Hall to raise money for underprivileged children. The event netted $59.18 after expenses with 203 advance tickets sold and 245 adults plus 102 children paid at the door led by club president Billy Black.
