Ghost Bird Pleases Large Local Audience

The play Ghost Bird, presented last Thursday night for Cameron firemen, was a success in every way. Directed by Leo Werner and Jack Harden, the cast delivered fine performances with refreshing vaudeville between acts and the firemen received a neat sum from the event.

Albert Triggs Jr Buys Cameron Texaco Station

Albert Triggs Jr has purchased the Texas Company filling station agency from Gaston Barmore and will operate the station in Cameron. The station, recently erected by Joe Bass, was leased to Barmore who will focus on the paint shop. Texaco products are sold. Mr Tutges has been with the Texas Company in the area for several months.

Precinct Primaries 10 Held Saturday for Democrats

Milam county Democrats vote in their precincts this Saturday to choose presidential preference and elect delegates to the county convention on May 8, which in turn sends delegates to the state Beaumont convention for national delegates. Downtown Cameron poll 6 30 pm Saturday. country precincts 2 pm. All participants must pledge to support party nominees.

T. S. Henderson Is Reported Improving

The condition of T. S. Henderson, longtime Democrat and attorney, was reported as hopeful after a week of critical pneumonia illness. Family and friends expect gradual recovery in the coming weeks as physicians note improvement.

Gas Company Leases Sampson Building in Cameron

The Community Natural Gas Company has leased the Sampson Building formerly occupied by Cameron Water Company next to Johnson jewelry store. This brings natural gas to Cameron with work expected soon on mains and street paving to wait until construction is complete. Piping is planned for June and July with surveys underway and contractors to begin once estimates are ready.

Milam Day at College Station Friday Delegates To Attend

Milam County Day at A and M College will bring many residents from this section to College Station Friday. George Banzhaf county agent and Miss Minnie Bartholomew home demonstration agent will accompany the delegates. The Maysfield school had considered closing for the event.

Horned Frog Station Opens With Large Local Crowd

The Horned Frog filling station opened Saturday drawing a large crowd to Cameron. Operators are A. R. Walschak, J. W. Raska, and L. J. Raska, with the station built by R. L. Batte who leased it to the trio. Mr Batte also plans a second drive in station on Buckholts road.

Local boxers express eagerness for another appearance in the ring and return matches are being planned. The date for the show will be announced later.

Batte to Build All Steel Gin in Texas

Material for the all steel gin is arriving for R L Batte who plans a fireproof plant on the former round bale gin site. The 75 by 16 foot building will have no wood, begin at once, and aim for completion by the ginning season opening.

Moody Hayes Rescues Boy From Deep Basin

Moody Hayes saved six year old Johnnie Shelton after the boy fell into a deep settling basin. Another child alerted rescuers as Hayes plunged in and dragged the boy out before he sank again. Mr Watson of the Texas Water Company assisted, Dr Sapp treated the boy, and rescuers worked until the doctor arrived.

Val Verde H D Club Holds May Meeting and Plans

The Val Verde Home Demonstration Club met May 1 at Mrs John West s home with four visitors. Miss Bartholomew demonstrated yeast bread and lemon pie and plans were made for a May 14 1928 meeting at Imogene Moore s home to discuss clothing for a clothing contest. Members listed include Rena Griffin Imogene Moore Ruthie Cryer Edna Cryer Opal Clendennen Aileen Underwood and Mary West with reporters noting two proud members Rena Griffin and Imogene Moore.

Road Meetings at Giddings Promote Highway 44 Upkeep

Al Smiths Victorious in California Primary

In San Francisco Governor Alfred F. Smith of New York won the California Democratic presidential preference primary over Senators Reed and Walsh. Smith captured 150,489 votes to Reed 66,651 and Walsh 44,956 among 8,908,794 total ballots. Reed campaigner Wilbur Legette floated an independent ticket if Smith is nominated, asking Josephus Daniels to run as vice president on a Reed-led ticket.

Rockdale Road Receives 175000 for Surfacing Project

The State Highway Commission allotted 175000 to hard surface a ten mile segment of Highway 43 from Milano through Adale to the Rockdale precinct line Dry Brushy. Construction will start this summer with rock or gravel base and asphalt topping similar to the Round Rock to Hutto road.
