Commissioner of Agriculture John White warned cotton planters to verify germination percentages before buying seed. He cited shortages for the 1951 goal of 11,000,000 acres and noted many seeds from gins mills and farmers tested as low as 3 percent germination. He urged use of lab resources and required tags showing germination on all seed sold in Texas.
