Office Tax Office sees late rush for licenses

Walter White County Tax Collector reports about 4500 car and truck license purchases by Wednesday morning March 21. He notes strong last minute activity in Rockdale Thorndale and Gause areas with a typical end of month rush and expects many more licenses to be sold in the next ten days. He adds 93 percent of county taxes have been paid.

Good Friday Service Set at First Presbyterian with Interdenominational Participation

Religious groups in Cameron coordinate a three hour Good Friday service at the First Presbyterian Church. The Cameron Ministerial Association designated the Presbyterian church as this year’s venue with ministers from several churches taking part. The noon to 3 PM service features soloists and organists and observes a citywide pause in business during the service window.

Rabies Alarm Spurs Milam County Action in Cameron

Milam County Medical Society meeting on March 13 1951 urged Cameron and nearby municipalities to pass ordinances mandating rabies vaccination for all dogs and cats and to destroy unvaccinated animals. It called for higher bounties on foxes and wolves and confinement of pets for 90 days amid five proven animal rabies cases and 29 people immunized.

Lt Roy L Vaughan to Attend Six Month Fort Bliss Training

First Lieutenant Roy L Vaughan will depart for a six month training period at Fort Bliss in El Paso Texas. He will be schooled in Radar and Electronics and previously completed an anti aircraft artillery course there in 1949. During his absence the Legion Sandwich Shop will operate under the supervision of his wife Gloria Vaughan Thelma Armstrong and Lola Gibbs. He thanks customers for past patronage and hopes they will continue to visit and bring friends. He looks forward to visiting his friends on his returns home.

Rural road program bill seeks 30 million a year

Henry Lehman of the 65th district introduces H B 669 a rural road bill backed by Milam County Farm Bureau president Dennis Klein. The proposal would raise about 30 million dollars annually via a gathering tax on natural gas and allocate one fourth to schools half to counties for rural roads and one fourth to incorporated communities by population.

Committee Studies Rural Phone Coop for Milam County

Milam County telephone committee met with C C Countess of Farmers Telephone in Belton to discuss extending rural service. Five-member group led by Walter White planned surveys of Cameron communities and urged residents to express interest. Countess noted existing builds in northwest Milam and Rogers Zabrickville areas and cooperated to explore expansion.
