On Monday April 2 Cameron merchants offer exceptionally low prices across many goods to attract thousands. The event features Municipal Band music and a possible parade by Auto Club, with auction sales and livestock expected alongside awards for farmers and residents.
Grand Chancellor B. W. Steele of Houston and former Grand Chancellor Bonner visited Milam Lodge No. 125 in Cameron on Monday. They met with local knights, spoke on Pythian progress, then proceeded to Rockdale for a lodge banquet before returning to catch the Santa Fe southbound.
A Department of Commerce report shows Milam County Texas produced 44 198 bales of cotton in 1922 about twice the 21 crop of 22 157 bales. Only ten Texas counties exceeded Milam, placing it eleventh largest globally for 1922, up from fiftieth in 1920.
Pat McKinney a prosperous farmer of Jones Prairie visited Cameron this week amid local business and social engagements. He toured farms, met residents, and discussed community growth with Cameron leaders.
A public booster extols the home newspaper as faithful and devoted to improvements. He claims it upholds harmony, bears its standard abroad, and works for the successes of the community, while concealing its faults.
Milam County Bar Association memorializes Ulyses Samuel Hearrell a longtime Cameron lawyer, former mayor, and advocate for the underprivileged. The resolutions express sympathy to his widow and children, acknowledge his public service, and request publication in district court minutes and local newspapers. The deceased, born 1865 in Missouri, left a stainless professional and personal record as a county attorney, mayor, and champion of injured and needy clients.
Tonight and Friday deluge of clouds with unsettled warm spell and probable showers. Cameron area sees partly to completely cloudy skies and warmer temps. Thursday, March 26, 10:30 a.m. forecast notes unsettled conditions across the region with warmer air.
Cameron hosts the Inter scholastic Meet on March 30 and 31 using Yee High School facilities. The event expects thousands of spectators as every county school participates with more than 12 60 pupils enrolled. A senior program and a class play will open the series of events finishing the meet.
Rev. Ira F. Key announces at First Methodist Och will hold a Sunday baptism using Jordan River water for an infant class. Morning service features baptism and sermon Broken Fellowship Revived or the Resurrection Realized. Evening service includes The Christian Trial with special organ and choir music.
The Cameron city tourist park gains favorable notice as a new Motor League of South Texas branch forms. J T Parma of Diamond Tire and Commercial Club directs the effort praising Central Texas roads and the park’s role for travelers heading south and west. The 1923 season aims to surpass last year’s traveler accommodations and profits.
Cameron churches announce Easter observances with varied programs. Cameron Episcopal Church hosts Rev. J D Hall from Philadelphia delivering a special sermon at 10 a.m. Easter music planned. Christian and Methodist congregations also hold morning services with sermons and infant baptism.
Decker Motor Co of Temple, longtime Dodge Brothers dealers, to open a Cameron sales and service store. They lease the Post Office Filling Station across from Hefley Motor Co and install a shop and display area with Coltharp, a trained Dodge mechanic, in charge of service. The move aligns with Dodge policy on upfront cost estimates and guarantees.
San Benito reports William Detleft of Weslaco produced the season’s first watermelon. The melon was described as of fair size with excellent flavor and perfect ripeness. Detleft expects soon to have his own melons on the market.
Thousands expected in Cameron as county scholastic league meet begins Friday morning and runs through Saturday. Weather may affect travel but roads could clear. events include defamation, definate, spelling with essay writing and indoor athletic events at school campuses. Local schools, Southwest Texas Normal, and University of Texas will send competitors. Municipal Band to perform. crowd entertainment planned at Comet Park ahead of Hyedhieghie meet in Calvert on April 10.
All Texas highways are passable with rough spots. Best route to San Antonio today and Friday uses Rogers Holland Taylor and Hutto. Caldwell via Rockdale Lexington and Dime Box. Houston via Hearne fair with two rough sections Hearne to Benchely and Courtney to Hempstead. Waco reachable via Temple with two mile rough stretch near Baldy. Taylor via Davilla and Bartlett rough between Davilla and Bartlett.
