Brod Buys Lone Star Hotel and Leases to Fikes

E L Brod purchased the former Lone Star Hotel building once run by Mrs. Mattie Springer and leased it to J D Fikes who will operate a hotel. The property, damaged by fire in 1929 and idle since, is being remodeled and modernized. Cameron gains another hotel as the Bluebonnet Cafe was sold to Gene Smith and will reopen under Eugene Smith, closing the Newport Cafe after years of operation.

Dallas educator Mike H. Thomas will speak at the Cameron men’s church banquet on March 28 at 7 30 PM in the First Methodist basement. About 400 men are expected as the event launches a pre Faster campaign to boost Sunday school attendance to 1800 by Easter Sunday, April 20.

Cameron to Georgetown Highway Plans Launched

A Cameron good roads meeting on March 17 outlined plans for a new Cameron to Georgetown highway passing near Tracy, Sharpe, Lilac, Duncan, San Gabriel and Granger. An executive committee and secretary were named to organize, survey preliminary routes, and push for State Highway Commission designation.

James D. Harris 59 Buried at Marlow

Funeral services for James D. Harris were held at the Marlow church with Rev. E K Hutcherson officiating. Harris died Monday at 1 45 am at his home near Curry he was born January 18 1871 in Hartford County North Carolina and spent most of his life in Milam County He was married to Olie Walston in 1911 and left five children, his wife, his father L W Posey, four sisters and two brothers. Interment was in Marlow Cemetery Green Brothers had charge of arrangements.

Churches Plan Revival Services Week Before Easter

The Methodist, Baptist and Christian churches plan revival meetings from April 13 to 20. Rev. Hyde will preach at the Christian church, while Rev. Hutcherson and Rev. Lehmberg conduct services at their churches. A soul winning study course begins March 24 at the Baptist church and invites all to attend, especially Sunday school teachers and officers.

Farmers agree to cut cotton acreage in Cameron territory

Farmers in the Cameron trade area sign an agreement to reduce cotton acreage by 15 to 20 percent. Only one farmer refused, citing substantial corn planting. The list shows the signed reductions for dozens of growers, with most at 15 percent and several at 20 percent and 27 percent.
