Planting Plans Postponed in Texas Fields Slow Start
Six Texas counties lose modified-certified brucellosis status for non compliance with eradication program rules. Cotton planting in the Lower Rio Grande Valley is delayed at least a month due to cold wet weather, with less than five percent planted. High Plains harvest of 1972 cotton is nearly complete as rains stalled activity. Nutrition challenges persist for livestock with muddy pastures and hay shortages. International cooperation expands grain sorghum breeding in Guatemala and Mexico. Texas supplies about 40 percent of the nation's grain sorghum and reports high quality hybrid seeds.
