New Cameron Chamber of Commerce Officers Announced

Cameron Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet at Simon George Memorial Hall last Tuesday night introducing Ben Magness as president Henry Liebman as first vice president and Hilliard Thomas as second vice president Retiring officers were Drayton McLane Magness and Charlie Burke Leonard Blaylock FBI San Antonio chief spoke on community roles in crime prevention and the need for local action Chamber officers and directors for 1957 were named with Magness receiving the McCullin Award for 1956.

Cameron Milano Road Work Restored After Court Submission

Milan County Commissioners Court has reinstated construction on the Cameron Milano Highway project. The nine mile section of State Highway No 36 from US 77 south of Cameron to Milano will include grading structures and surfacing after right of way was filed with the highway department.

Virgil R Lake son of Will and Mrs Lake of Cameron takes over the newest Danburg department store branch in Victoria at the Village Business Center after managing the Spring Branch store for 2½ years. He is a World War II veteran with a Purple Heart and participates in Veterans of Foreign Wars with his wife, as they plan to buy a home in Victoria.

Cameron Council Receives New Garbage Truck

Cameron City Council met last Tuesday with Public Works Superintendent W D Bighee receiving delivery of the new city garbage truck as of March. The council approved paying 1500 for a water line easement to Bart Hickman and voted to have the city swimming pool painted. City Secretary Wayne Wieser noted the equalization board would meet for the first time in 1957 on Monday March 11. Councilman Roy Griffith chaired the meeting in Mayor Robert Weems absence. other members were present.

Lynch Offers TP&L Aid To Cities Seeking New Industries

TP and L officials toured Temple and Cameron as part of a southern division inspection and discussed growth prospects for Central Texas. President Lynch said TP&L will aid communities in attracting new industry, noting 1956 achievements that attracted 32 new firms with $8 million payroll and about 2025 workers.

Milam County Youths Receive 98 Chicks From Local Sponsors

Milam County FFA and 4H members each receive chicks Friday, 98 crates in total, from Cameron Milano and Thorndale sponsors. Chick distribution on the Milam County Courthouse lawn precedes a May 4 banquet for shrowers and sponsors, with prizes at the 7 3 pm Poultry Show including top pullets and roosters, cash awards, and banners for champion pens.

Mrs. W. J. Clark Dies In Cameron Hospital

Mrs. W J Clark 89 died after a heart attack at a local hospital. Final rites were held March 2 at Marek Burns Funeral Home with Rev E J Davis of the First Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. She was born January 23 1908 in Caldwell and lived in Cameron for years. survived by son Billy Clark Houston, daughter Mrs Mary Maples Cameron, seven grandchildren fifteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Milam County Youths Win Top Show Prizes

Eight members of Buckholts Milam County FFA Club led by C. Titsworth won top prizes at the 197 Houston Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exhibition, showcasing area exhibitors of animals and poultry.

Marshall Weems Dies In Temple

Marshall Weems aged 60, longtime Cameron resident and McLane Company employee, died Tuesday March 5 1957 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple. Funeral services set for 2 p m today at Full Gospel Tabernacle with Rev H M Bowley and Rev A J Frisby officiating. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. He was born September 6 1896 in Milam County and was a World War I veteran. Survivors include his widow four daughters three sons a brother and two sisters. Arrangements by Green Funeral Home. Also reported are local 4-H exhibitors and Milam County winners in the Junior Fat Swine and Market Poultry shows with multiple placings.
