Convicted felon Punchard tied to Baytown robberies case
Houston police traced the suspect to Huntsville prison after reviewing his record. Roy Baskin says he will appeal. Judge Graham Gillis had not heard the motion by noon Tuesday. Punchard, convicted in Milam County under the Habitual Criminal Statute, faces return to Huntsville to resume life sentence if not granted appeal. He previously escaped from jail and traveled through Cameron Temple and Houston before being recaptured. Born in Somerville, his lengthy record dates to a reform school sentence at age 15.
