A new road to the state cemetery in Austin is named Lou Kemp Street in honor of Wiltz Kemp born and raised in Cameron. The award recognizes his efforts to locate and move Texas patriots and historic figures to state cemeteries and his ongoing research into their graves.
The Heart O Texas Council opened its Boy Scout Training School at Ada Henderson school on March 5 with Charlie Meyer leading the session. Sessions continue March 12 19 26 at 7 30 pm and Sundays March 30 April 6 with attendees urged to include Scout Masters troop committees captains and all interested in scouting. In Cameron a court of honor at Yee High school awarded tenderfoot first second and third class ranks and merit badges to seven candidates.
M. C. Fox has purchased the Milam County Battery Company from D. D. K. Hall and now runs the business. Hall had bought it from Fox but could not devote full time. Fox remains the first Texas dealer under a Dayton Tire contract with direct factory connections lowering prices by removing jobbers.
The famous eleven piece Negro orchestra from Dallas, Trents, makes its first Cameron visit for a big Friday night dance at Skeezix on March 7. Park patrons will hear the musicians perform.
The Business and Professional Women’s Club completed plans for presenting the home talent play Aunt Lucia at its regular monthly meeting. Miss Alice Kennedy of Garnet Kansas representing Universal Production Company Fairfield Iowa will direct and conduct rehearsals. Miss Ann Stallworth led the meeting in president Gladys Watson’s absence as refreshments were served and a short musical program followed with Miss Vetris Kirk and Miss Gladys Jewel Copus performing.
Patro lman P H Creekmore of Lampasas received the loving cup at the Texas Power and Light Co transmission section annual meeting in Dallas for the highest neatness and efficiency score among 37 patrolmen. He oversees Lampasas San Saba Liane Burnet Copperas Cove Evant Lometa substations and patrols 134 miles of lines serving those communities. O S Hockaday presented the cup.
Henry M. Hefley of Cameron learns a man named H. M. Hefley in Waco bought a car, prompting a call from Waco. Horace Martin Hefley of Norman Oklahoma a Baylor zoology professor confirms the link. A family-tree stretch reveals likely relations between the Cameron and Waco Hefleys.
J. B. White editor of The Herald addressed Yee High school students during chapel last Friday, sharing his collection of arrow heads fossils Indian relics and other Milam county finds. He described the significance of items gathered across the county and held attention for over an hour.
C R Fry of Purina Mills presented a four act play The Lay of a Hen at Yee High school auditorium on March 3. The educational poultry program showed how common farming methods waste money and entertained with humor from Lett M Russell.
G L Huckaby reports Milam County schools applying for aid have good buildings and equipment. Total aid approved is 9621 to be used for teacher salaries and longer terms in districts meeting tax and equipment rules. Schools listed include Val Verde Friendship Lilac San Gabriel Conoley Salty Gay Hill Fairview Watson Branch Pleasant Hill Oak Hill New Salem Sipe Springs Sand Grove Bethlehem Marlow Buckholts Sandy Ridge Walker's Creek Belmena String Prairie Sharp Gause Independent.
Taylor Press reports optimism in the oil frater nity as Chapman Fuchs No 1 is expected Thursday, and Simms Oil No 1 on the Lawrence tract nears 1600 feet. Drilling paused by a separated pipe, fished free by noon, with work resuming in gumbo strata.

Gene Smith, proprietor of the New port Cafe and Jameson City Marshal-elect, bought the Bluebonnet Cafe from D. Fikes. The deal closed Thursday as the cafe, damaged by fire, is restored and planned to reopen later this month. Smith will close the Newport cafe and move his interests to the new location.
Coleman funeral home adds a siren to its ambulance at notable expense to speed emergency responses in Cameron. Drivers are urged to yield the right of way to the ambulance as it makes frequent calls.
An unusual opportunity for Cameron will be presented next Thursday at the regular PTA meeting. Mrs C J Sharborough of Austin will give an address on Pre School Psychology, a subject she studied at the University, and the local association is pleased to have her present it here.
W J Watson announces Texas Water Utilities Company offers 7 percent cumulative preferred stock of Texas Louisiana Power Company to Cameron citizens. Shares cost 100 dollars par value 100, yield 7 percent, with quarterly dividends. Purchase possible via cash or a savings plan with 10 down and 10 per month.
Mayor J W Chambers proclaims March 10 to 16 as National Business Women's Week in Cameron in cooperation with the Business and Professional Women's Club of Cameron. The proclamation honors women in business and professional roles and urges Cameron residents to observe the nationwide observance.
