Flight Commander Capt Thomas Jefferson White United States Army Air Corps is stationed at Lake Charles Air Base Louisiana and promoted to command. A former MacDill Field instructor he rose from air corps cadet to captain in two years after volunteering February 1941. He trained at Muskogee Randolph Ellington Jackson Meridian and MacDill before flying B 25s and B 26s and earning his wings at Ellington. He attended Rice University with Phi Beta Kappa honors and a PhD path interrupted by war now leads a flight of the world s fastest bombers.

Carroll Wood Leaves Cameron for Orange High School

The move, prompted by a U S Army assignment, assigns him to oversee 500 boys as part of a military oriented physical education plan. Staff Sergeant Robert Lee Batte III builds a long record at Goodfellow Field San Angelo as one of the world’s largest basic flying centers. A 1942 high school graduate from the local class he attended military college before entering the air corps. Batte rose from private to staff sergeant after mechanic training and service at Fort Sam Houston Ellington Field and later Goodfellow Field, son of R L Batte Jr of Fredericksburg and grandson of R L Batte Sr.

Lone Star Gas Turns Scrap Into War Plants in 1942
Lone Star Gas Company converted 2 445 444 pounds of scrap including iron steel rubber paper and ranges to the war salvage campaign in 1942 and earned a citation from the War Production Board. C F Wilson Dallas supervisor of stores and administrator of salvage reported nine month total and quarterly splits. The company will continue in the program for the duration and forwards salvage to war production plants.

Grand Jury Adjourns After One Day Session
