White Sparrow to Be Buried on Old School Campus
Cameron's White Sparrow found dead at 3 p m Monday will be buried on the campus of the old grammar school building in west Cameron by the Business & Professional Women. Ann Stallworth and Lillian Atkinson announced the plan to erect a marker over the tiny mound. The sparrow had become nationally famous after a naming contest funded by the club. The bird’s body was given to the Women’s club Tuesday morning. Jim Short of Marlow found the bird near a Cameron curb and tree where it had lived for more than 15 years. Community members may donate living shrubs for the Sparrow’s grave site.

Runaway Boys Returned by Bel County Sheriff
Three boys from the Boys Home near Copperas Cove in Bel County were brought back by Sheriff Carl Black. Richard Haynes Walter Eaton and Jack Ray were held for involvement in a Cameron Theatre robbery and were taken to Temple after being located on the Belmena highway.

Marak Community Tops War Fund Drive For Red Cross
The Marak community reported the largest county contribution to the War Fund of the American Red Cross at noon Wednesday. Frank Mikulec deposited 241.45 at First National Bank marking the total from Marak as the best per population. Father Holub, new pastor of St Cyrill and Methodius, led efforts with talks and goodwill. Cotton, bale weight 643 pounds, fetched 122.15 after gin fees and sales, plus 20.55 seed, totaling 142.52. Miss Theresa Picha sponsored a quilt raffle, adding 20.25 to the Emergency War Fund for Marak District. The award will follow.

Pvt. Johnnie Plisek of the Chemical Warfare service is on foreign duty with the army, attached to a depot after service at Fort Sam Houston and Indiantown Gap. Son of Mr and Mrs Joe Plsek of Buckholts Milam County, he has not visited home since enlisting and hopes to return by Christmas 1943 if Allied victory holds.

J M Brashear 64 native of Milara county and former resident here died at 11 95 Tuesday night March 9 1948 at his farm home near Rockdale. Funeral services set for 5 30 p m Thursday March 11 1943 at Salem with interment in Salem Cemetery. He died of a heart attack. Jackie White Sparrow Found Dead Near Mowdy Plant
Jackie White, Cameron’s famous white and spotted sparrow, was found dead at 3 p.m. Monday near the Mowdy Dry Cleaning plant by Jim Short of Marlow. The bird, about 15 years old, attracted statewide attention and had been cared for by the Mowdy couple and Fred Jackson. The body remains at the Herald offices as readers view it through a window.

J C Penney Co bought and sold over 16 million dollars of war bonds and stamps in the last half of 1942, about 6 percent of period merchandise sales. Major portions came from July drive and steady ongoing sales, with Penney Associates also buying on pay days. Cotton crop insurance gains momentum in Texas
Texas cotton farmers sign 6 635 contracts to insure 50 or 75 percent of average yield under the Federal Crop Insurance program. The state leads in signups, with March 15 as the Milam County deadline.
