Grain Sorghum Talk Highlights Milam County Practices
Milam County Agent Ben Spears spoke to about fifty Cameron area farmers on grain sorghum production emphasizing seed bed preparation soil fertility and planting dates as key to profitable yields. He warned bedding as risky for moisture loss and noted fall plowing improves stands. Fertilizer tests show 30 lb nitrogen and 30–40 lb phosphorus per acre best for Milam feed crops. Early planting reduces sorghum midge damage with tests from Colieze Station in 1960. Demonstrations to observe include 3 x 4 Dwarf Grain Sorghum in Cameron Buckholts and Thorndale communities this summer.
