Temperatures plunged to 25 degrees at the city water plant Tuesday with below freezing forecasts for Thursday. Sleet and subfreezing weather caused heavy damage to blossoming fruit trees and early gardens while icy roads raised hazardous driving conditions. A high pressure shift reduced winter weather threat in Central Texas as ice and snow affected Red River counties from Wichita Falls to Childress.

Rites Monday For Miss Kelso Retired Maysfield Teacher

Miss Mary Kelso a teacher in the Maysfield School for about 40 years died at her home in Maysfield Saturday evening She was born March 12 1877 in Bartlett and lived in Maysfield since childhood She was a member of the Maysfield Presbyterian Church Surviving are her sister Mrs Bertha Kelso of Maysfield and a nephew Hugh F Smith of Cameron Funeral services were held Monday at 1 pm at the Marek Burns Funeral Home with the Rev Eugene Strickland officiating Burial was in Clifton Cemetery Pallbearers were Ray Newton J P Wise LeRoy Massengale Vaughn Thweatt Roy Weems and Walter White.

Anton Klecka Sr. Dies at 85 at Marak Church

Anton Klecka Sr. 85, retired farmer, died at his Marak home about 3 30 p m Monday from an apparent heart attack. Born in Czechoslovakia, he lived in Marak 53 years and was a SPJST Lodge 72 member. Survived by wife Franc es Klecka and 9 children, 24 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Services held at St Cyril and St Methodius Church with Rev Rafael Gerskovich. burial in Marak Cemetery.

Guardsmen Send $12,000 Home

Guardsmen of the Texas Army National Guard’s 4th Armored Division on active duty remit about $12,000 monthly to families in 74 Texas cities. Maj. Funeral services for T. P. Morris 88 will be held at 2 p m today from Green Funeral Home. Morris died in an Austin hospital after several weeks illness. He was a lifelong Branchville resident. Two Bell County men charged with armed robbery

Harvey Foster and Alvin W. Lueck, both of Sparks, were charged in Justice B. G. Rice's Court with armed robbery after a quick arrest following a 4:30 a.m. hold up on SH 36 US 190 near Cameron. Bond set at 1000 dollars each. $25, credit cards and change taken from four Houston men. All items recovered.

Milk Parlor Nears Completion Here

Construction at the J. K. Stuart Dairy milking parlor northwest of Cameron is about 75 percent complete and should finish in two weeks. The 3,800 square foot steel tile and concrete structure will house offices for Jersey cows being brought to the Stuart home, with calf sheds and other buildings to follow after operation starts.

Cameron Fire Rates Reduced by Five Percent Credit

Fire Marshal John Eanes announced Cameron will receive a 5 percent fire insurance rate credit after April 1 from the State Board of Insurance in Austin. Cameron previously earned a 10 percent credit, rising to 15 with new reductions, while other nearby cities reported varied credits from 5 to 25 percent and Hillsboro showing a negative 5.

Cameron Chamber of Commerce and sponsors will present baby chicks to Milam County 4H and FFA contestants at Milam Courthouse on Friday. Judging and banquet set for April 28. Sponsors pay 10 dollars per contestant with 7 dollars for 50 chicks plus 2 dollars for banquet tickets and 1 dollar for prize money.

Miss Elizabeth Dillon a native of Burlington and retired stenographer died at 12:30 p m in Austin. Services are 10 am Wednesday from St Michaels Church in Burlington with Rev Benedict Goertz officiating. Burial is in Burlington Cemetery. Born June 23 1892 in Burlington she lived there before moving to Austin two years ago. Survivors include brother Paul Dillon of Cameron and sister Miss Annie Dillon of Burlington.
