House Panel Backs Bill Extending 1970 Act and Reform
The House Agriculture Committee approved a four year measure extending and modifying the Agricultural Act of 1970 by a 31 to 4 vote with one present. It would establish target prices for cotton wheat and corn, eliminate crop subsidies if price costs align, and aim for passage after the July 4 recess. A separate 27 to 3 vote backed Rep Wiley Maynes plan to raise equity in the 1973 grain set aside by increasing Option B payments from 15 to 25 cents per bushel.
