Houston man found insane in assault with intent to murder case

Dee Layne McReynolds, indicted for assault with intent to murder, was ruled insane at a hearing in W C Wallace's 20th District V Court in Franklin. He was committed to the state hospital for the crim inally insane after the shotgun shooting of his mother at Camp Creek on March 17, leaving her with serious spinal damage and paralysis from the waist down.

Somerville The Deanville Common School District will hold a June 30 preference election to decide if the district should be annexed to Caldwell Independent or Somerville Independent School District. The vote is nonbinding but the County School Board is expected to act on the outcome.

Rosebud Council Approves Tickets for Fire Truck Followers

The Rosebud city council passed a ruling allowing tickets for people who follow fire trucks to fires. Council members, many of whom are volunteer firemen, cited a washateria blaze where crowds hindered access.

Rockdale approves sewage plant expansion and bid awards

City council opens bids and awards a large contract to remodel and expand the sewage treatment plant after two years of planning. Project cost about 457 339 dollars with 343 000 dollars in federal EPA funds. A Texas Water Quality Board finding prompted the expansion to address 200 percent overload.

Taylor Kiwanis Arts and Crafts Show Under Big Top

The Taylor Kiwanis Club sponsors its second annual Arts and Crafts Show and Sale in Taylor city park under a circus tent on June 30 and July 1 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. About 100 exhibitors from Texas will display paintings sculptures needlework and decoupage with proceeds supporting youth activities.

County Board Approves Annexation of Maysfield to Cameron

The county school board unanimously approved annexation of Maysfield School District into Cameron after a hearing with 39 supporting and 71 opposing signatures. Supts. Dodson and McClaren prepare property transfers. TEA confirms immediate legal effect. Enrollment at Maysfield was 37 last year, grades 1-8, and prior district consolidation votes showed Cameron winning 103-25 while Maysfield lost 46-23.
