San Andres Lodge No. 170 will present 50 year pins to Carl Black Drayton McLane and Vince Lesikar at the stated meeting on Thursday June 28 The lodge will also hold an open installation Friday with Claude Austin Past Grand Master of Texas as installing officer and H Grandy Doss of Kirbyville as installing marshal Public invited to the open installation.
The Milam County Field Crops tour begins at 8 a m Monday July 2 from Cameron post office. Topics include greenbug damage sorghum midge control and weed control demonstrations. Specialists Dr Charles Cole Dr Walter Walla and others will discuss crops and soil conditioning. The tour ends at noon at Wilburn Beckhusens. all interested persons invited.
Kathryn Kahler reports Cameron students find summer work in Industrial Park downtown and in nursing homes auto repair shops and feed stores. Nursing homes employ ten students as aides janitors ward clerks kitchen helpers and laundry assistants. Cliff's Auto Service hires three students including a Vocational Adjustment student. Farm and Ranch Store owner Joe Humplik notes students do almost everything from sales to driving trucks and spreading fertilizer.
London Reuters reports Comet Kohoutek could outshine the full moon, potentially ten times brighter than prior comets and spanning a sixth of the southern sky. Discovered March 7 by Lubos Kohoutek at Hamburg Observatory, it may display between November and February, with a tail forming as it nears the sun.
