The Cameron City Council discussed a petition urging submission of a called election to decide if a commission should draft a Home Rule Charter. The plan, supported by the Planning Board, seeks to modernize Cameron's government, extend city limits, and grant broader powers under a charter not limited by general law.
R. H. Williams, native of Tupelo Mississippi born December 5 1881, died suddenly in Dallas. His funeral was held at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with pastors B R Walker and Caperton officiating. Burial followed at I O O F cemetery. Survivors include wife Abbie Hallbrook son Paul H Williams of San Antonio sister Mrs W R Simonton and brothers Claud Roy and Burney Williams.
Community trash pickup runs Monday through Friday June 25 to June 29. Areas south of Santa Fe Tracks receive Monday pickup, with divisions for zones west of Southern Pacific tracks Tuesday east of Southern Pacific to Crockett Avenue Wednesday, Crockett to North Fanin Thursday, and north and east city limits Friday. Place cans at curb for city trucks.
Milam County watermelons arrive as farmers push early harvest. Jesse Kirk of Milano and Gause plans to ship several car loads this week at about two cents per pound, with prices expected to hold for ten days. Local leaders discuss a migratory labor shed in Cameron funded by the Chamber of Commerce and Farm Bureau, with a five year land lease proposal for one dollar annually.
At a Knights of Pythias meeting on Monday night June 25 officers for the ensuing term were elected. Roy Wright will serve as Chancellor Commander with Fritz Schwartzing as Vice Chancellor Allen Dodson as Prelate J M McLean as Secretary B L Archer as Master of Works Sam White as Master at Arms A J Smith as Inner Guard and Stewart Perkins as Outer Guard.
Four city churches join the Texas Baptist General Convention in launching V B S sessions starting Monday July 2. The Invincibles group will staff each church with registration Friday June 29 at 9 AM, followed by refreshments and a parade.
Cameron Texas city council approves an ordinance granting a two percent credit in the insurance key rate. The measure also establishes a standing $100 reward for arson arrests within Cameron city limits. The ordinance cites previous lapse in rewards and suspends reading rule for immediate effect.
Seven members of Boy Scout Troop 83 aided a city wide clean-up campaign distributing circulars. Led by Rev. John C. Solomon, the scouts included Lawrence Tiller Bobby Wicher Darby Pleatl Clyde Wallace Johnny Solomon Don Howard and Jeff Burkes in the effort.
Funeral services for Joe N. Luce aged 89 were conducted at 3 30 p m Monday in San Angelo by Rev Grady I Peters Johnsons Funeral Home Chapel He was a retired farmer and rancher who lived in Cameron and later in San Angelo Survivors include three sons Joe R Luce Floyd Luce and D L Luce two daughters Dewey Markum and Frank Marino one sister Mrs George Small eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren Burial was in San Angelo Cemetery beside his wife who died in 1946.
W P Red Hogan of Rockdale was elected unopposed commander of the fourth American Legion division covering the 11th 12th and 13th districts at a Sunday convention in Waco Legion Hall He is also commander of the 11th district and will assume office in August at the state convention About 400 legionnaires attended with auxiliary members for a barbecue dinner a Sunday memorial service was held and the auxiliary elected Mrs W W Johnson of Quanah as division vice president Mrs G W Small led arrangements for the women’s meeting

Dr. Geo W Cox urges hygiene and sanitation, fly and rodent control, safe water, proper sewage, washed raw foods, strict dish sterilization, and cautious child exposure. Early signs include headache fever vomiting drowsiness and neck stiffness. seek a physician if symptoms appear.
Herman McKinney 65 died at his East 3rd street home Friday afternoon June 22 after two years of declining health. A native of Davilla Milam County he spent most of his life in the area and was a longtime farmhand before moving to Cameron. He worked seven years as a mechanic for Muse Motor Company and was father of Mrs Namon Press.
James Record will conduct a ten day revival at the North Central Church of Christ in Caldwell from July 5 through 15. He has served the local Church for seven months, is an Abilene Christian College graduate, and has preached across West Texas. Evening services start at 8 PM and he invites church members and friends to hear the gospel messages.
Alfred Price Jr. stationed in San Diego California is home on a ten day furlough visiting his parents Mr and Mrs Alfred Price Sr. The item notes his return to duty after leave.
