Umpires Blamed as Equalizers Help Cameron Lions Club Win

The Cameron Lions Club beat the Little League Ladies Auxiliary 17 to 4 in a chaotic softball game that drew about 400 fans. Umpires were accused of bias as players and spectators described wild play, mishaps, and close calls amid a strong community effort that raised 80 dollars for Little League equipment.

Museum invites Milam residents to donate historic items

The Central Texas Area Museum in Salado invites Milam Countians to contribute historic mementos and papers for July displays. Bloodmobile Visit Planned for Cameron July First

The Red Cross bloodmobile will be in Cameron on Friday July 1 from noon to 6 p m at the Fellowship Hall of the Methodist church. A 75 pint quota is set with Richard W Moseley as local chairman. Mrs F E Jackson will lead volunteers and Dr Clifford Swift will supervise doctors on duty during donations.

Collisions on US 77 Injure Six Monday

Two separate crashes on US 77 left six injured, one seriously, as state trooper reports. A 1958 Pontiac driven by Paul Lewis Shegull rolled over after colliding with a 1958 Chevrolet driven by Dallas C. Richards in Minerva, injuring Don Edmonds and Stanley Fikes. several others escaped injury. A wrecker collision near Rockdale left Douglas Baxter Rockdale injured and arm severed, with three vehicles total losses.

Hospital Receives $41,046 Thus Far

The Cameron drive for Newton Memorial Hospital reports $41,046.50 raised. a July 6 bid date is set and $8,953.50 remains to meet the $50,000 local goal. Officials anticipate federal grants of 150000 to 200000 and 60000 in out of county funds upon completion. The new four wing, 28 bed hospital would replace the current facility on West Fourth Street, Cameron.

The City Council met briefly approving a $277.56 bill to Texas Concrete Pipe Co for 36 inch drainpipe on E. 11th St. in East Cameron and opened bids for tires for the city fire truck.

Milam County Bank Deposits Increase Amid West Week Plans

Milam County banks report about a million-dollar rise in deposits at the June 15 call from a year earlier. Five banks total 20 042 336 40 compared with 19 132 213 23 in June 1959. Cameron posts a $748 479 79 gain, Citizens National Bank of Cameron at 8 785 067 52, First National Bank of Cameron at 4 142 334 76, Rockdale Thorndale and Buckholts banks also show gains as statewide deposits rise with strong business conditions.

Milam County Farm Bureau Plans Queen Contest

Milam County Farm Bureau's Program Committee chaired by Mrs. S. W. McClaren Jr. met in Cameron to plan the Annual Queens Contest set for July 21 at the First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Eligible Milam County Farm Bureau members' daughters, ages 16 to 22 by Sept 1 1960, may enter. county winner advances to district in Cameron on Aug 27 and then to the State Convention in Dallas in November with a $500 expense award for the state winner. District and county winners receive gifts or watches. contestants judged on poise appearance and personality with a one minute public speech on a Farm Bureau topic. Committees were named and a meeting for eligible girls is scheduled July 1 at 3:30 p.m. at the Farm Bureau office.

Buckholts Sharp School District Vote Planned for June 25

In Buckholts and Sharp districts residents will vote to consolidate Saturday with polling at Sharp School Tracy and Buckholts School. If approved a six grade elementary in Sharp and a six grade junior senior high in Buckholts form the new district with a seven member board and Perry as superintendent.

Cameron Western Week Gets Governor Backing Again

Gov Price Daniel endorses Cameron Western Week with an official memorandum urging broad support for July 11 to 16. An eight member Cameron Chamber delegation received the document in Austin. The week features the Cameron Saddle Club horse show on July 15 and 16 and re-enactments across the city, with Western dress day across Milam County and interest spreading to Waco Temple and Austin.
