Newton Memorial Hospital fund drive nears $50,000 goal

Newton Memorial Hospital drive totals $42,187 with a July 6 bid date ahead. Buckholts Voters Reject Merger. Sharp Approves Consolidation

Sharp favored the consolidation 93 to 24 while Buckholts voters rejected it 81 to 138. Both districts will keep 12 grade systems next year. Milam County officials say San Gabriel Thorndale annexation proceeds were approved to strengthen the Thorndale district.

Bloodmobile to Visit Cameron for 75-Pint Quota

Cameron donors may give blood from noon to 6 p.m. tomorrow at First Methodist Fellowship Hall. Richard Moseley, Cameron Red Cross chairman, says the Red Cross bloodmobile seeks a minimum of 75 pints for the area quota. Any Milam County resident can receive blood free except for administrative costs under the Red Cross program.

Elm Creek bond vote set to fund 61 dam structures

A 200000 bond issue will be voted July 16 in the Elm Creek Watershed to fund 61 dam structures across a 200000 acre area in Falls Milam Bell and McLennan counties. The plan would straighten Elm Creek add lakes and reroute water with federal aid and Soil Conservation Service support.

Threesome’s Action Saves 9 Year Old From Sunday Flood

Nine year old Jackie Morris was swept into a culvert by floodwaters on Butte Street Cameron. Vito Riola and Dr Robert Titsworth rescued her from the torrent and Joe Lee Humplik applied artificial respiration.
