Newton Memorial Hospital fund reaches forty thousand

Milam Red Cross officials report 535 pounds of clothing collected in Cameron to aid two million Chileans left homeless by tidal waves and earthquakes. The week saw no rain in the area with temperatures peaking at 98 degrees on Tuesday and dipping to 67 degrees at night The June highs varied between 90 and 92 degrees with several days near 91.
Former Cameronite John Womack Dies in Oklahoma
Funeral services for John D. Womack 70 of Choctaw Oklahoma and formerly Cameron were held at the Choctaw Methodist Church. He died Thursday in Oklahoma City. A former Cameron Herald linotype operator and long time Oklahoma Publishing Co. employee he moved to Choctaw in 1936. He is a cousin of Cameron’s John S. Butte Sr. Survivors include three sons John Jr. San Diego Calif Capt R J Womack Germany and Edward Choctaw and three daughters Mrs Jean Brown Detroit Mich Mrs Pat Shelby and Mrs Mary Sue Mitchell Choctaw. Interment was in Choctaw Cemetery.

Four Vehicle Accidents Reported in Cameron Week
Cameron police logged four city street accidents in the past seven days causing about 1225 in damage with no injuries. Chief Homer E. Johnson also noted 22 moving violations four arrests for disturbance and 17 investigated complaints.

Eight Army reservists die in Liberty crash near Cameron
A two vehicle collision on US 77 near Cameron killed James Matthews 23 of Liberty and injured nine others including seven Army reservists on weekend pass from Fort Hood. The 1959 Pontiac driven by George Odum 41 Liberty and a 1960 pickup driven by a West Columbia man collided at FM 485 intersection.
