Austin June 18 L A Woods state superintendent announced another dollar remittance of the state school fund apportionment had been made. The latest payment leaves seven dollars of the sixteen dollar per scholastic apportionment unpaid with 1 567 177 scholars on the rolls.
Governor Miriam A Ferguson names The Cummings of Fort Worth as temporary chairman of anti prohibitionists to pick delegates for the state convention on ratification of repeal. Prohibition and anti prohibition groups meet in Austin June 27 to set candidates for a statewide convention on November 24. An Aug 26 special election will vote on delegates with separate repeal and anti repeal slates. Senator Morris Sheppard named temporary chairman of the prohibition forces.
Jimmy Mattern, the Texas flyer, resumes his around the world trip from Khabarovsk after weather forced a return from Nome. Soviet mechanics overhauled the plane and advised the best route across the Sea of Okhotsk.
Massachusetts became the 11th state to ratify repeal after complete returns showed a 4 to 1 wets victory. Indiana’s loss dealt a setback to the dry crusade, while no state yet rejected repeal. A straw poll in Iowa suggests it will join the wave, with Texas set to vote on convention delegates August 26.

Cameron merchant Chas Zidell opens a final clearance sale this week at The Fair store as he prepares to leave Cameron. Zidell announced in April the store would close out stock with further price reductions in June. He formerly managed the St Louis Store and has run The Fair since 1882.
