Last Rites Held For Priest In Austin and Temple
The Rev. John Joseph O'Reilly, 84, longtime Catholic priest, died Monday in a New Orleans hospital after a long illness. He was interred after a high requiem mass at St. Edwards University Chapel in Austin with services at St Monica's Church. He served in Temple and other Texas communities, wrote a booklet in 1936, and was born in 1873 in Kilanney Ireland.

A police escort and fire truck led the Vacation Bible School parade through Cameron on Saturday. Floats from First Baptist and Battetown Baptist churches were judged on originality economy and attraction to Bible school. The Old Woman In A Shoe won first place with What Is God second and Barrel Of Fun third.

Mrs Jim Speer Attends State Chamber Meeting in Mineral Wells
Cameron Chamber of Commerce secretary Jan Speer attended the 51st Annual Convention of the Texas Chamber of Commerce Managers Association in Mineral Wells. The three day event June 24 featured 18 speakers for about 400 managers and wives with Governor Price Daniel as top speaker at the Tuesday luncheon. Congressman Jim Wright of Weatherford also spoke at the Monday luncheon on chambers cooperating with state government.

New 50 Unit Federal Housing Project Planned in Cameron
Construction to begin on a 50 unit federal housing project in Cameron after delays from rain. Coffield Construction Co. of Rockdale is main contractor with a bid of 472,438.72 and 13 bids were opened in April. He will assume a similar district sales manager role with Humble Oil & Refining and has been in Cameron about two years. Farmers Home Administration Loans Aid Texas Farmers
More than 200000 has been loaned to farmers in Milam and Purleson Counties during the 10 months ending April 30 1957 by Farmers Home Administration. The heaviest demand was for credit to finance 1957 crop operations in these counties. FHA extended operating emergency and real estate loans to about 16500 Texas farmers and ranchers totaling 54773000, State FHA Director Walter T McKay reported.

Girl Scout Units Hold Ledbetter Park Dinner Night
About 250 Girl Scouts Brownies and parents attended an annual dinner at the Girl Scout Hut in Ledbetter Park closing a daytime camping week. Troop 2 hosted the chicken dinner and “flying up” ceremonies moved Brownies into Girl Scouts. Rev John Solomon attended as guest and several troops spoke of hikes crafts and cooking out during a week of camping with 70 girls per unit.

Rainfall Totals 2 66 Inches Here During Four Days
Frequent rains last week in Cameron added 2.66 inches to the 21 inch plus record listed at City Hall for about 24 inches thus far in 1967. Supt Alvin Herft city water department measured four rains the first four days of June. Normal rainfall for the Milam County and Central Texas area is 32 inches. Cameron has only eight inches to go to reach the normal yearly total. Little River was swollen with rain water again early this week but did not reach flood stage. Weather experts say 1957 thus far is headed for a record year.
