Congressman Poage announced approval of a 76500 dollar loan for Marlow Water Co. The project will serve 51 families now. Charles Mc Dermott is president of Marlow Water Co.
Lefty Frizzell, recording star for Columbia Records, will headline the Rockdale Frontier Day dance at Rockdale Fair Park Pavilion on June 1 and 2. He is slated to perform at 8 p.m. each night.
Cameron area National Guard units led by Company C 49th Armored begin a two-week field training at Fort Hood with Brig. Gen. James D. Scott taking command June 1. The Milam unit marks 20 years since its 1947 formation, with history tracing to World War I campaigns. Four Cameron summer programs start in early June with Head Start funded by a $7,274 grant and remedial and pre-school activities for English deficiencies.
Ashland Oil plans the Blackburn-Trammell 126.07 acre lease in Smith Vincent Survey to drill a Wilcox test near Milano. Luling Oil & Gas and Production Enterprises also prepare Wilcox tests on Curtis Jackson and D. C. Road leases, with Hunt interests rumored to join. All targets lie near the Wilcox formation noted as Milam County’s prolific producer.

Sheriff Carl Black said Willie Holloway and Joe Fredrich of Austin faced Milam burglary charges along with three Bastrop County burglaries seven in Williamson County and others in Lee Travis Comal and Hays counties. A cache of stolen clothes was found at their Austin home and some valuables recovered.
Newton Memorial Hospital has added a defibrillator described by Dr. W R Newton as the first in Milam County. The device delivers electric massage to restart the heart and is reportedly more effective than drugs previously used.
Correction states that potatoes in the Mondrik Minimax ad for June 1 2 and 3 are priced as California U S No 1 Long White eight pounds for 49 cents. All other prices in the ad or circulars from that date are invalid.
The 1967 Texas Legislature acts to curb rising crashes with expanded driver education in high schools, age 16 licenses for students, mandatory licenses for motorcycles, driver tests for all vehicle types, and stiffer penalties for suspended licenses. It also tightens vehicle inspections, licenses commercial schools, and funds a statewide safety program. Governor to oversee and coordinate with federal funds.

A former Alcoa employee from Milano pleaded guilty to theft of about 4009 pounds of copper wedges from the Alcoa Rockdale plant and received a five year probated sentence in Milam District Court. Robert Melton must pay restitution by June 24. He sold copper wedges to an iron and metal dealer in Waco, part of which was recovered.
Miss Preble Stedman died at 2 45 p m Sunday in a local hospital. Born in Cameron she lived here all her life. Funeral services were 4 p m Monday at Marek Burns Funeral Home with Rev Richard Freeman officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. She is survived by one brother Hilly H Stedman of Cameron two sisters Miss Claudia Stedman and Miss Minnie Stedman of Cameron Pallbearers were Walter Anderle Jack Tomlinson Dean White Hollis Erwin J R Nelson Earl Burke Harry Davis and Clifford Marburger.
Cameron area Girl Scout day camp opens Monday at Wilson Ledbetter with five local units registered. Activities include cookouts crafts and one overnight for Cadette Scouts. Camp runs 8 30 to 2 30 Monday to Friday except Thursday 3 30 to 8 30 p m.
Texas 441 Youth Development Foundation will honor Rep Milton J Schiller Cameron among 12 for outstanding contributions to 4 H. The ceremony occurs during the Texas 4H Club Roundup at Texas A&M University on June 6 in the G Rollie White Coliseum with 2000 attendees.
The Sunshine Bowling League will hold its 8th annual awards banquet at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cameron Country Club. About 100 bowlers sponsors and guests are expected as the winter league concludes.
