Lieutenant Pauline Michalka the first Cameron girl commissioned in the U S Army is with expeditionary forces in Australia. Her mother Anna Michalka has been notified of her safe arrival though her exact location in Australia is unconfirmed. Born and raised in Cameron, she graduated Yee High School in 1939 and Seton Infirmary in Austin before enlisting as a Second Lieutenant.

Cameron Gets New Rural Mail Route

The route covers 48 miles, pays 2100 dollars plus a mileage allowance, and serves about 200 box holders with mail routed through Cameron. J. F. Plaster Dies at Home in Cameron
J. F. Plaster, Cameron pioneer, died at his Cameron residence early Wednesday from a heart attack reportedly suffered Tuesday night. He ran a blacksmith shop and kept it active despite his age. Mrs. Plaster was with him at the time of the stroke. Funeral arrangements pending with Green Funeral Home directing.

Airman Lieutenant George Womack Foster of Calvert has been reported missing in action by the Army Air Forces. He earned a commission at San Diego navigation school in March and was stationed at West Palm Beach Florida. A Southwestern University graduate with honors in 1940 he attended Texas Law School a year before joining the service. While at Southwestern he held student council office led the dramatics club and served as a basketball letterman for three years.

Navy Elects Albert Epperson as Radio Instructor
Albert Epperson of Houston son of Mr and Mrs Thad Epperson and grandson of Mr and Mrs J H Sapp Cameron joined the Navy in October 1941 and rapid progress saw him become Junior Instructor of Aviation Radio after a four month course. He teaches radio repair and theory to about 100 men and hopes for advanced study at New London Conn. He is a qualified Navy Air Station sailor and enjoys speed boats though sails demand more skill. Rockdale Youth Dies in Nevada Auto Crash
James C. Allen of Rockdale, 19, died after a crash near Reno while returning to California from a friend’s wedding. A. Sid Allen, his father, was notified by army officials. The other driver in the collision died. the body will be brought back to Rockdale for burial.
