Two Sentenced in Cameron Liquor Store Robbery

F. L. Wilder and J. E. Castleberry were convicted in District Court and given five year prison terms for the Lazek Liquor Store robbery in Cameron. They were transported to Waco to face additional charges of a liquor store robbery at West.

Milam County Scrap Drives Highlight Fats Collection Plan

The Salvage Committee reports 331,961 pounds of scrap rubber collected, with 815,279 pounds of scrap iron shipped previously. A new campaign excludes Milam from tin can collection while launching a household fat collection to conserve fats for Allied needs. Lieut Frank Newton Promoted and Flies Big Bomber Over Cameron

Lieut Frank M Newton of the United States Army Air Corps now a First Lieutenant with a possible promotion to Captain. Stationed at Lakeland Florida he earned his wings at Luke Field Arizona and flew B 24 four motor bombers from Shreveport Louisiana He and his crew visited the city in a mid day flight in the same type of plane used in the Battle of Midway and Aleutian combat He was a law student at the University of Texas before joining the air corps and serves as a first pilot aboard the large four motor bombers already poised to strike the Axis.

Mrs. G. W. Malone 64 died Tuesday evening July 21 1942 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Annie Kirk in Cameron. She was a Louisiana native who moved to Texas at age four and lived in Liberty County before settling near Cameron. Funeral 5 30 p m Tabernacle Liberty Church with interment Liberty Cemetery. Near Serious Wreck Occurs Here Wednesday

A near serious wreck occurred late Wednesday when a car driven by 14 year old Seth Dees collided with a Magnolia Oil Company employee vehicle. Dees’ car then hit the Fred Dierz home yard, damaging steps at the Dierz and Graves residences. Both cars were badly damaged but all occupants escaped with minor bruises. City Marshal Gene Smith warned parents about minors driving without licenses.
