Our Town Continues With Reflections On Progress
The writer notes that historical eras featured greater abundance in scientific progress or human happiness while acknowledging today’s faster pace. The piece muses on whether some readers seek the oldest living person as a measure of time's passage.
Oldest Inhabitant Not Measured By Years Alone
The piece argues that age should not define a person or community standing. It values deeds over lengthy lifespans and urges focusing on service to others rather than exploiting longevity for attention. It echoes a poet's line that life is counted by actions, thoughts, and feelings, not numbers on a dial.
