Gulf Coast Storm Ravages Gulf Area With Millions In Damage
The storm that struck between Galveston and Port Arthur moved inland by Wednesday afternoon. Power and water were restored in Houston while Galveston remained without both. Two deaths were reported, one in Houston and one in Galveston, as damage estimates rose to ten million dollars and the region faced its worst storm since 1915.

Two Mexican Girls Die in Little River Drownings
Two Mexican girls aged 13 and 16 drowned Tuesday afternoon in the Little River at the Judd G. Davis farm near Bryant Station. Their bodies were recovered early Wednesday after the accident, which occurred near Cummines crossing bridge. Names were not known to the Herald.

Overseas Service For Pfc Alfred Gelner In South Pacific
Pfc Alfred Frank Gelner has served overseas with the U S Army Engineers since May this year, believed to be in the South Pacific. A Cameron native, he enlisted three years ago on July 20, a volunteer, after farming and Cameron High School. He has prior duty at Laredo Fort Bliss Indo Calif North Carolina Virginia and Fort Bliss before entering combat zones. His parents Mr and Mrs Frank Gelner of Cameron have not heard from him.

Human skull pulled from Brazos River near Port Sullivan
A fisherman hooked a human skull from the Brazos River near Port Sullivan on a Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Carl Black examined the skull and found it to be that of an adult in good preservation with all teeth intact. Officials believe the head belonged to a person who drowned years ago.

Lt James Samuel Tyson of the United States Army Air Corps recently returned from Camera to Vietuville Army Air Base in California. He is assigned to Moses Lake Washington and was commissioned at Victorville flying school. Tyson is the son of Dan Tyson City Secretary and Treasurer and Mrs Tyson. Mr and Mrs Bill Pugh and son James Curtis of Taylor visited Cameron relatives last weekend.

Funeral Here Sunday for George Albright
Funeral services for George Albright 79 who died in Dallas will be held at the W. H. Triggs residence at 6 pm. Rev. Bob L. Pool of the First Methodist Church will conduct the service with interment in Dank Hill Cemetery. Mr. Albright born in Missouri in 1864 never married and had lived in Dallas all his life.

TP and L Adds 30 000 Kilowatt Turbine at Trinidad Plant

Milam County First Bale Ginned at Clarkson Gin
Milam county's first bale of cotton for 1943 was ginned at the Matyastik gin in Clarkson at 2 p m Tuesday July 27. Weldon Black on his farm near Clarkson produced the bale which weighed 566 pounds with 765 pounds of seed. John Matyastik reported the bale and noted possible premium plans by the Chamber of Commerce. The Jones Prairie and Clarkson communities have a record of producing the first bale and harvest is expected to start soon. Black anticipates a strong yield from his cotton acreage this year.
