President Woodruff of the Chamber of Commerce outlined a city wide cooperative plan to seek Council support on Tuesday night for an August effort to eradicate rats in Cameron. The bid relies on Cameron civic organizations and a coordinated appeal to city officials.
Green and Boedeker prepare to reopen their remodeled central Texas store on Friday at 7 oclock after a May 12 fire. New stocks fixtures and a glassed north wall entrance align with a modern layout featuring separate furniture hardware and food sections and a pit barbecue service.

A. P. Culligan, jailed after a city warning, faces five swindling with worthless checks cases. The new law effective June 22 imposes jail time regardless of check amount and penalizes anyone who asks to drop prosecution after filing a complaint with the district or county attorney.
Cameron Chamber of Commerce voted not to join the Central Texas organization after a meeting. The budget was cut from 30000 to 20000 with local share over 500 annually. President F. E. Woodruff said the group could not afford the regional budget nor fund desirable activities, favoring continued membership in East Texas Chamber of Commerce.
John McLerran Jr and Tom Baker were fined in justice court after a Tuesday afternoon fight over a money dispute for labor. Baker claimed McLerran owed him wages and McLerran later withdrew his guilty plea to the fighting charge.
Dr. W R Newton told Cameron Rotary at a noon meeting that typhus fever poses a potential epidemic as rat populations grow. He warned there is no specific cure, rats are the infection source, and urged immediate extermination campaigns citywide at low cost to prevent an outbreak.
Funeral services for Paul Heintze sixty six were held Tuesday at 10 from the family home in Cameron with Rev. A J McCary delivering the sermon. He died Sunday night from a heart attack while wait ing on a customer at his Cameron store. He was born in Berlin Germany on June 10 1874 and came to the United States in 1882. He is survived by his widow two children six stepchildren and a brother. interment at Sharp Lutheran cemetery.
The Rotary Club will sponsor the first of a series of Yee High School band concerts to be held Friday night in City Park. Cameron civic and fraternal groups join with the Chamber of Commerce in organizing the event with Albert Collins directing as host for the opening evening.
Keith Blankenship formerly a Buckholts constable was arrested by Sheriff Kennedy and Deputy McCall on Wednesday. He faces charges of disturbing the peace and assault after a fight with Ford Cosby and a pistol strike by Elimar Horstmann. Justice of Peace D R Criswell intervened to quell the dispute in Cameron.
Hershel Johnson was arrested last Friday night by Sheriff Kennedy at his Riverside Farm home after a family disturbance during which he allegedly hit a woman relative with a pistol. Johnson faces aggravated assault charges.
By noon today three bales of 1939 cotton had been ginned in Cameron. The update records early harvest activity and indicates ongoing cotton processing in the region.
