The first 1939 bale was produced by J. D. Black of Clarkson at the Matyastik and Sons plant on Buckholts road. It weighed 4256 pounds and was pressed at 2 p m. The 1938 first bale came from E. B. Yager of Jones Prairie on August 1.

Rose Anderson, a Cameron resident, pleaded guilty to possessing unstamped and illicit liquor. Judge Jeff T. Kemp fined her $200 plus costs after Mead Miller, with Constable B F Bailey, arrested her. The case was filed two weeks earlier and disposed of Monday upon the judge's return from vacation.
President J B White finalizes the Rotary Club program for the coming year. Each member serves as a Committee Chairman, sharing responsibility for club activities. W DuBois of Santa Fe becomes Public Information Chairman, introducing a policy to interpret all club actions. Pp W Davis takes Programs chair to arrange next luncheon.
B. FE. Powell recently moved to Cameron and works as acting agent in E. C. Cole's absence on a vacation tour of the East. Powell serves as cashier and telegraph operator, succeeding Chas. Davidson who was transferred to Burnet County.
The Sharp School project completed for fall term offers 10 classrooms, a study hall and auditorium seating 614, with a steam heated, electric lit building. It features a radio and public address system, time recording, cement floors, reinforced concrete piers, and solid brick main walls. Cost reached $70,000 with 45 percent funded by a PWA grant. Architect J E Johnson of Cameron planned the insur ands. contractors were R Blackmore and Co. Frank R Cromwell served as PWA supervisor from Fort Worth, now in Cameron.
Jose Charles and Pascual Vargas two Mexican men were fined $500 and costs each after pleading guilty to desecrating the graves of Mr and Mrs Jim Barmore in Little River Cemetery. They were arrested around midnight July 13 while destroying the tombstone foundation. Judge Jeff T Kemp ordered the fines with possible jail time for nonpayment, and the men may remain jailed up to a year.
Warner Bros. film Dark Victory opens in Cameron on Sunday with Bette Davis in a famed ill fated romance. George Brent co stars with Davis and Humphrey Bogart appears as an unpolished but sincere Irish character in a moving melodrama.
D C Smith a pioneer Texas resident and Mi lam county native died in Austin on Friday after a brief illness that began with a cold and influenza. Funeral services were held Saturday at Pebble Grove Cemetery near Maysfield. Surviving are five sons C Smith Van Smith Forest Smith Morgan Smith and Dr. David Smith of Cameron and two daughters.
Two Mexicans from Jones Prairie pled guilty in County Court to desecration of graves of the late Mr and Mrs d L Barmore. They received a $500 fine plus costs and must serve about six months by working on county roads. The district attorney calls this the gravest offense and the highest penalty under the law.
Police investigate a Santa Fe town burglary at Alvin Mendiik grocery where $17 cash is missing after a broken glass entry. Matula's Garage was also entered but nothing stolen. Sheriff Kennedy Constable Bailey and two highway patrolmen are on the case.
A revival meeting at North Elm Baptist Church begins Wednesday evening July 26 and continues through Friday August 4. Services are held twice daily with the evening sermon at 7 p.m. Rev. John Cole of Waco will preach. The public is invited.
The Missouri Mule appears opposite Aor Burny in the film I'm from Missouri opening Thursday at Cameron Theatre. The piece notes the mule’s pedigree myth and cites history crediting the breed with wartime feats and even political office, while praising the fierce reputation of the male from the Mexican burro lineage.
Miss Maurine Messimer leaves the city Friday for a summer vacation with friends in Mexico City. She is teaching school in San Antonio.
A. P. Culligan was arrested by City Marshal Gene Smith at a local hotel after a citizen identified him from the Cameron Daily Herald. Smith had warned Culligan earlier about passing checks, and the arrest followed the newspaper’s street distribution.
Lake Buchannan near Burnet hosted a three day outing by The American Legion Sona unit. Loyal Post members organized the Sons with ten boys including Grady Little squadron leader H B Mc Clellen Bismark Horstmann and D H Boone. Sons attending were Louis Gohmert Lane Horstmann John Michalka Wallace Culpepper Lawson Clark Milton Boone Bobby Bennett Joe Hill Hopper.
Fred Davis known as Sharp and Milam County citizen died in Kings Daughters hospital Temple at about 11 Tuesday night after several days in critical condition. He was 59 years old and survived by his mother Mrs Dan G Davis three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the family residence in Sharp with large crowds. interment followed at the Presbyterian church grounds where his late father, Dan G Davis, is buried.
