The council debated a city rat extermination effort but took no action last night. W H Stafford said the city would push with the county to tackle rodents in outlying areas. A civic group urged the plan, with talks by F E Woodruff and Dr W R Newton noting Milam County Typhus concerns. State Health Dept and A&M College offered two campaign plans.
Commissioner Grady Stidham said the Bear Creek bridge on Salem road will be completed today and ready to cross early next week. Contractors for the job are Camp and Gunn of Thorndale.

Mrs Patience Doggett of Friendship died at Cameron hospital. Funeral held at Friendship with ministers Will Robins P L Caperton and T D McCrary officiating. Interment at Friendship. Born December 7 1852 she moved to Milam County in 1871 and married David George Doggett in 1879. Survived by daughter Ida R Webb son Walter H Doggett and thirteen children eleven great grandchildren.
Growers of corn and row crops are invited to a brief preview of the new Farmall A tractor at Cameron Haigh Corporation. The tractor features Culti Vision allowing the driver to see ahead behind and underneath for cleaner cultivation with less crop damage. Production by International Harvester has started and samples will soon appear nationwide.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lottie Hart 83 were held Friday at St Marys Episcopal Church Lampassas. She was mother of Mrs W M Cobb whose husband once edited the Cameron Enterprise and of Ben L Grimes a former editor here. Misa Rose Rischar, Mrs Dan Legacy and Miss Delphyn Scott attended.
Edwin Hardy Post No 9 of the American Legion elected Ralph Michalka as Commander John Muse as 1st Vice Commander Homer Allen as 2nd Vice Commander Ray O Neill as Adjutant H B McClellen as Service Officer R W Bennett as Finance Officer I E B Woodruff as Chaplain Joe Richter as Sergeant at Arms These officers will be installed at the regular meeting on the first Tuesday night in September.
A large gathering of members and visitors attended Thursday evening’s supper hosted by the Odd Fellows Lodge on the First Methodist Church lawn. Rev A J McCary presided while Austin lawyer Judge A Wheeler gave the principal address and Judge W G Gillis spoke. Guests came from surrounding communities.
A Temple taxi driver named Patten was kidnapped by two unknown bandits linked to Eastham prison fugitives. The men bound him to a tree near Gauge, stole his cab worth over $80, and fled. prison guard Albert Owen pursued the fugitives, expecting arrests within hours. The incident followed a late-night car stop at the Richter Transfer.
