Seth Dees, charged in Milam Falls Counties for cattle theft, was sentenced to eight years in district court by Judge Graham Gillis after pleading guilty. He will serve four years in Falls county concurrently with a Marlin term, with delivery to prison in a few days. Dees had previously faced trials for murder and cattle theft.
Saturday confessions cleared recent burglaries in Rockdale. Jessie Shields confessed to burglarizing the Missouri Pacific station and the Robert Menn grocery store, while John Adamek admitted cattle theft totaling four head in the county and six head in neighboring counties.
The Cameron school board established a band council to oversee the band's interests after music became a high school subject. J. W. Haygood serves as chairman with Mrs. Frank Monroe, Francis Cox, and J. C. Martin, board president, as ex-officio member E. A. Perrin. Further details to follow in the next issue.

A verdict of death by own action was returned by Justice of Peace Womack Bra shear in the death of Jonto Perez, 24, Mexican, at Clarkson. Perez was found with a bullet wound entering the chest on the Tarver farm by another Mexican. A note left by Perez disclosed a love affair as the motive for the suicide.
W G Lock of Yarretton displays millet heads at the Herald office collection on Wednesday. He brings four longer than the 12 inch head noted by Temple Telegram and a 14 1 2 inch specimen. Also shown is a sugar beet around 10 pounds. The farmer is praised as a good citizen and Milam County is lauded.
Grabein Chevrolet partners with Goodrich Safety Silvertown Tires in Cameron territory. New blowout proof tires bow to the public through Grabein Chevrolet Company at the local agency.
The Herald will award a three year subscription to the producer who grows and delivers the largest melon from Milam County to Cameron for weighing at Dusek Pharmacy. No melon surrender required by the grower.
Rev. M. Maurice Grove of First Christian Church will open an eight day meeting starting Sunday August 11. Rev. H. Daniel Morgan of Marlin First Christian Church will assist with chalk drawings. Open air services are planned and all are invited to attend worship and fellowship.
The Cam eron Comets meet the Temple Surgeons and the Knights face Lott in Class B play at 2 p.m. A Comets win keeps them alive. a loss eliminates them. If KC beats Lott they advance to the Class B playoff as the race tightens.
George Banzhaf, Milam county agent, says farmers should continue to sign 1935 contracts and collect allotment certificates as the rental program proceeds. Senate validation ensures full payments this year though future changes may abolish or alter the program. Observers warn of repercussions for production, labor, and prices if surplus controls end.
Nadine Loftin of Davilla and Opal Loftin of Friend ship are named gold star girls of Texas and will attend the Short Course at A and M. They will join the banquet on Wednesday July 1 and receive gold star pins for garden demonstration work. Nadine is a first year member, Opal a four year member, traveling with Milam county agent Bertha Fae Strange.
The W. A. Robinson Service Station at 211 North Fannin Street announces a shipment of the new Goodrich Safety Silvertown Tires. Cameron residents are invited to view the tires and learn how they meet modern safety demands.
Dr and Mrs Arthur McDonald and their children of Ponca City Oklahoma have been guests in the home of Mr and Mrs B F Robinson. They left for a few days visit in Galveston and will return to stay again in the Robinson home for a weekend before returning home.
A bottle tossed in Little River by Gertrude Boedeker on May 1 washed ashore on Galveston Island north beach. Four young men from Galveston and New York read the note on July 1, replying to Miss Boedeker. The bottle traveled from a trestle along the Southern Pacific tracks to the river mouth near Gause, then coughed up in debris on the shore amid flood debris. Miss Boedeker is daughter of Mr and Mrs E H Boedeker of Cameron.
Zalesky’s Dry Goods Store enlarges by moving into the former Pace Marshall Drug Company and the Specialty Shoppe building in Cameron. The owner announces special prices this weekend to celebrate the expansion and new occupancy of the entire building.
A. S. Moseley the sole Confederate veteran in Cameron marked his 100th birthday at his daughter and son in law home. A watermelon feast fed about 20 friends at 5 p.m. M. D. Moseley of Beaumont joined as an out of town guest. Moseley enlisted in the Civil War in Mississippi and served in Company G 14th Mississippi Regiment.
Henry Hlavacek of Ad Hall brought two large ears of white Qualla corn to the Herald office. The corn, grown on sandy land, measured about 12 inches and represents the year’s best crop. He urges the government end welfare support to let farmers run their own business and notes his recent purchase of a new International truck for the farm.
C W Bradbury owner of the Cameron Bradbury store will leave Friday for Saint Louis with Mrs Bradbury to buy goods for the fall and winter season. They expect to be away about ten days and Bradbury plans a large stock of nationally advertised brands for Cameron trade.
Preparations are under way for a ten day outdoor revival on the lawn of the Methodist Church. Rev. N. H. Melbert of Marlin will preach the first service next Sunday morning and remain through the revival. Cecil Taylor of Cameron will lead the singing. All are invited to attend. J. Coy Williams, Pastor.
