Cameron Man Killed When Struck By Auto

Antone Bedan 69 died after being struck by an automobile driven by John Holley near Walzel grocery in Santa Fe Town. Holley arrested then released as accident deemed unavoidable. inquest held. Funeral held at St Monica’s Church with burial in Catholic cemetery. Bedan survived by daughter Mrs Mary Meeks and had earlier lost a hand in a past accident. 55 Pound Melton Opens Quest for Largest Melon

A. R. O Neal started Milam County melon hunt by bringing a 55 pound melon from his Hoyte farm to Cameron. He will enter later melons as the contest progresses. The Herald offers a three year subscription to the producer of the largest melon this year. E. D. Parnell aims to buy and preserve the fruit for fall exhibition. Melon raisers are urged to participate.

Milam County Rural Mail Routes Cover 712 Miles Daily

Archie McLerran, Milam County Rural Letter Carriers secretary, reports 17 routes totaling 712 miles daily with 311 miles improved and 401 unimproved. They serve about 4560 families or over 18 000 patrons each day except Sunday, reflecting the wide rural mail service.

Presbyterians Hold Revival September Seventh

C. C. Acrey minister of the local Presbyterian church announces a revival starting September 7 and running for six days to September 13. Dr. P. B. Hill of San Antonio will preach. he is a leading American minister and heads the largest Presbyterian church in the South.

Mrs Thelston Ford Dies At Baileyville

Mrs Thelston Ford of Baileyville died at her home on Tuesday afternoon July 30 at 2 45. Funeral was held from the family residence Wednesday at 4 o clock with interment at Little River cemetery beside her late husband who died last year. Survived by five children and five sisters and two brothers, she was noted for religious civic work in Cameron and Baileyville.

Wokaty Returns from Marlin in Improved Health

Austin Wokaty, agent for the Great Southern Life Insurance Co., has recovered from tonsil surgery at Buie Hospital Marlin. He returned to Cameron after the operation and plans a quick return to full health. Wokaty has long served as a steady producer and recipient of prizes for service to policy holders.

Buckholts Rites Held For Mrs F W Schiller

Mrs F W Schiller age 68 died Thursday at her Buckholts home after years of ill health. Born in 1855 in Ceruna Czecho Slovakia she came to the U S in 1869 settling in Wesley Austin county Texas. Survived by husband F W Schiller ten children and one sister. Funeral service Friday at 2 pm at Buckholts Bohemian Lutheran Church with interment at Ocker. Pallbearers named Joe Slovacek E Schiller Vince Petrney Joe Marek Joe Vajdak Frank Janis. Coleman undertakers in charge.

Milam County Pioneer Eugene A. Barmore Dies at 68

Eugene A. Barmore 68 of Milam county died at home in the Salem community after a heart and kidney attack Monday night July 29 1935. He was born in 1867 in Attala County Mississippi and moved with his family to Milam over 50 years ago. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church and a full obituary will appear in a later issue.

Henderson Affirms Seat on Highway Board

John B. Henderson president of the Cameron Chamber of Commerce was elected a director from Milam county in the Highway 36 organization. Also at Gatesville meeting were Judge Jeff T. Kemp and chamber secretary W F Paden as the scope expands to include all counties along the road from Freeport to Abilene.

Who Has Biggest Melon in Milam County Preview

The Herald will award a three year raise and bring to Cameron the largest melon of the year. The melon must be grown in Milam County and weighed in Cameron at the Dusek Pharmacy. The publisher will not require the grower to surrender the melon.
