Steve Matthews a former Cameron resident died suddenly of a heart attack in Freeport early this morning. His body will return to Cameron for funeral services likely Friday with interment in North Elm Cemetery. He worked in the hardware department at Green & Boedeker and is survived by his widow two young sons a brother and a sister.

Lt. Allen August Horstmann, born and raised in Cameron, has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Army and assigned to the Coast Artillery. Copperas Cove Man Hurt in Car Wreck
Bill Lyons of Copperas Cove in Bell County was injured in a two vehicle collision east of Cameron at 10 30 Tuesday night. Lyons alone in his car reportedly skidded on ice or gravel at the Milano and Hanover roads intersection. Deputy Carl Black assisted at the scene and Lyons was taken to Newton Memorial Hospital.

Daggers Made for Marines by Local Blacksmith
Leonard Garcia of Camet made three large daggers from old files for Marines in the island area battle effort. The daggers were turned over to the boys' parents and were described as finely drawn first class fighting instruments. One dagger was delivered to the Herald plant by Garcia's son, also a blacksmith.
