British forces seize Tripoli as General Rommel reportedly abandons the city by ship or heads toward a last stand near the Tunisia frontier. The fall marks another major blow to Mussolini’s empire in North Africa with fascist officials evacuating and ruin from bombardment evident.
German papers report a Soviet push toward Rostov and Kharkov with Russians claiming superiority in manpower and equipment. They warn of possible breaking of the German line and note Germany’s crumbling strength before decisive decisions. Ray Tucker,22, of a family of eight, wounded September 20 1942 in Ireland during riots over American soldiers presence, is coming home. Sister Verlie Tucker received his letter Tuesday from Brooklyn describing his plans to reach the United States soon. Tucker served with the 304th Tank Destroyer Battalion under Col. Purdy and spent a weekend in Cameron with the battalion.
Milam county attended a quarterly police conference in Caldwell led by County Judge Jeff T. Kemp and District Attorney Ed Gunn. Deputies Will Vaughn LeRoy Massengale and Justice I Robins Constables W J Lee and Lonzo Worley joined other officials. The group voted to hold the next meeting in Cameron on April 14.

He is prepared for service on major American air bases and could contribute to peacetime aviation work.
Ralph Mitchell of the Public Health Service canvassed cafes bars and soft drink establishments Saturday to grant approval for those meeting sanitary standards. The army will bar any business not observing sanitation rules. Mitchell said the army cooperates with Cameron to meet the requirements.
F. G. Haas of Buckholts visited Cameron on Wednesday and renewed his Herald subscription for another year.
Mrs G F Layne of Milano visited Cameron as a guest on Saturday, staying with local acquaintances and taking part in city social activities during her brief stay.
A Cameron city council vote 4 to 1 declined to pass Rev. Bob Pool’s beer sale curfew proposal restricting hours from midnight Saturday to 7 a.m. Monday and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekdays and weekend. minority vote by Alderman Roy Griffith. Mrs John Jedlica of Ad Hall and her husband are guests of Mr and Mrs L J Raska at a Cameron area ranch home. Mrs Jedlica receives a Five Star Emblem of Honor from the Emblem of Honor Association of New York City for having five sons in defense. A son in North Africa sends a letter praising the war’s progress and hoping to return home.

Cameron banks have named officers and directors for the new year. H. M. Hefley re-elected President of the First National Bank. Oxsheer Smith elected President of the Citizens National Bank. Two officers serve in the armed forces Alvin Nolte and Rudolph Marak. Current statements show total resources around ten million dollars.
Cameron City Council rejected a proposed beer ban from midnight Saturday to 7 a.m. Monday. The ordinance was killed after a failed second on a motion to pass. it had been previously taken under advisement January 14 by a 4 to 1 vote. Aldermen Mc Dermott Horstmann Terry and Griffith attended. E. O. Schiller was absent. The council has not expressed support and the issue appears dead for now.
