Cameron native returns to sea after Pacific service
Seaman First Class Joe Bill White, after five and a half months in the South Pacific where U S Navy and transport service smashed Japanese power and landed troops, has rejoined his ship. Born in Cameron, he attended Yee High School, studied at A and M, and worked in East Texas oil fields before enlisting at Longview. He trained in San Diego, served at sea since December 1942, and spent time in a Naval Hospital before resuming duty. He is the son of J B White, publisher of the Herald, and Mrs Leona G White of Cameron.

Shirley McLean Reported Wounded in Action in New Guinea
Shirley McLean, serving with American forces, was wounded in action in New Guinea. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McLean, announced the news after a War Department telegram reached them stating he was slightly wounded and expected to recover. He arrived early in Australia and later reached the New Guinea front.

Funeral Services For W. J. Walker Here
W. J. Walker former Cameron School Superintendent and Texas educator died Sunday night January 31 1943 in Oklahoma City. He had gone to his son's home to recover from illness. Funeral services will be held here Tuesday with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery and the body arriving by Santa Fe early Tuesday morning.

Funeral services for Stephen C Matthews 36 were held at 2 30 p m Friday January 29 1948 from the Baptist Church in Yarrellton. Born July 3 1906 at Yarrellton Milam county he was the son of Mr and Mrs R C Matthews. He worked in various towns before joining Dow Chemical in Freeport where he died of a heart attack January 28 1943. Surviving are his widow a son Stephen C Matthews Jr and a daughter Susie Dell Matthews. Interment in North Elm Cemetery.

Gunnery Expert Tech Sgt Frank Richter Rising Fast in Air Service
Tech Sgt Frank Richter, a gunnery expert born in Cameron, now stationed at Lakeland Florida, has advanced rapidly in the Air Service. He began at Fort Sam Houston, served in Jackson Mississippi and Columbia South Carolina, then Meredian Mississippi before training at MacDill Field Tampa and earning a Sergeant’s rating. He is an instructor at Lakeland and is the son of Mr and Mrs Frank Richter Sr. Wallace, a Cameron buddy, is now in Australia.

Joe Cummings former Justice of Peace Davilla and civic leader died at his Davilla home after declining health. Funeral services set for January 31 at the Christian Church with burial in Lilac Cemetery. He was about 55, survived by his widow and several children. Cameron Native Commissioned as B-26 Pilot at MacDill Field
Lt. W T Caldwell son of Mr and Mrs Wilbur Caldwell of Cameron has been commissioned as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He now commands a B 26 bomber crew at MacDill Field Florida and joins a bomb squadron led by Flight Commander Lt Thomas J White of Cameron. The B 26 is a fast medium bomber famed for war service. Caldwell is among Cameron youths joining the air forces.

Milton Cook Sentenced to Three Years in Federal Prison
Milton Cook, who escaped from custody December 7 1942, was tried in St. Louis Federal Court and sentenced to three years in federal prison at FBN Reno Oklahoma. He was wounded by Constable Worley during a Thornton service station robbery and later arrested near San Gabriel after another escape from Cameron jail. He had stolen a Buick in Houston, later recovered at Thorn dale.
