Richard Hobson 41 died in a plane crash near Bryan on January 11 while flight companion Jessie A. Rose also perished. Hobson, a Milam County bricklayer, born January 11 1910, was tied to the Marlow community and served on the Marlow School Board. Funeral at Marlow Baptist Church with burial at Marlow Cemetery.

Induction Calls On The Increase In Milam County
Milam County Draft Board No 92 issues a February 12 call for 15 men to be inducted into the armed forces. This is the seventh such call since the Korea war began, bringing total inductees from Milam County to 63 since August 1950. Twenty-two men will depart January 17 for pre induction physicals at the Dallas Recruiting Station, with about 65 percent passing.

Texas Power and Light President W. W. Lynch says ample electric power is available to support industrial and military expansion from the national emergency while meeting civilian needs. The company now has 328,900 kilowatts capacity, more than double pre WWII levels, with key increases from Trinidad and Waco plants and a new 132,000 volt Stephenville substation. Mr and Mrs V L Zavrel of Cameron received word on December 9 that their son Sgt Frank Zavrel was wounded in North Korea with the 7th Division 31st Infantry. He said he was wounded in the face but improving. letter dated December 1, 1950. He served in World War II and has eight and a half years in service. twin of Louis A Zavrel, they turn 30 on March 30, 1951.

Tax Office Reports 1950 Collects 75 Percent of County Taxes
The Tax Assessor and Collector reports about 75 percent of county taxes received by December 31 1950 with $247 326 88 collected of a $345 333 09 year total leaving $98 007 71 outstanding. Early January receipts push current percentage toward 85 percent, poll tax receipts near 2000 as 1951 is an off election year. City secretary notes tax collections similar to last year with 562 poll taxes paid versus 584 last year. total poll tax receipts for 1950 were 1348. Last days before bond election will be busy as citizens pay poll taxes to vote on the upcoming measures and city aldermen races in Cameron.

Well Known Cameron Citizen Dies At Home
Mrs. Rosa Lee Baskin, 77, died at her Cameron residence on East 9th January 10 1951 after months of illness. A longtime Cameron resident from Alabama, she was active in the Methodist Church and local community affairs. She married Arthur H Baskin Sr in 1898 and had five children, with one predeceasing her, and her family included son Dutch Baskin and daughter Mrs W A L Robinson. The funeral is set for 10 AM Friday January 12 at the First Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Magers officiating.
