Cameron logged a notably cold Wednesday morning with a low around 10 degrees Fahrenheit colder than Dallas and 24 percent? 24 percent appears garbled but noted as a cold record. Local observer L. W. Smith of the U S Weather Bureau compared the reading to historic 1929 conditions with snow and a national cold spell.

Wood mill equipment arrives for Cameron plant

L. G. Smith of the Cameron Chamber of Commerce reports several truckloads of machinery have reached Cameron for a new wood mill. H. A. Fonville, tied to Wichita Falls timber firms, led weeks of contracting to secure timber for the mill. The facility near the Matyastik Gin on Buckholts road will process timber into shipping boxes and related products. Fonville says timber contracts are ample to keep operations running, with plans for immediate startup, and local timber owners may trade longs for finished timber for farm use.

Massey Case Goes Up For Appeals In Austin

A statement of facts and bills of exception in the Massey kidnapping case were filed for transmission to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin. Dr. Ola Dee Massey, Waco dentist, was convicted in district court here for kidnapping with intent to extort related to her aunt Mrs. R. H. Johnson’s detention in a Waco hospital. The 1947 verdict imposed five years in prison. briefs and arguments will address points of law before the appellate court. Valuable jewelry disappeared from Mrs. Johnson’s Cameron home. all except a $2500 diamond brooch were recovered.

Army and Navy public improvements bills advance in Senate

Senate approved by voice vote $350 million in Army and Navy construction. Improvement Sought For Highways Through Cameron

E A Perrin chair of the Good Roads Committee told Cameron directors that he had met with the City Council and asked for a letter to the District Highway Engineer seeking paving improvements on highways Nos 36 and 190.
