A J Gunnels Home At Marak Damaged Fire

The home of A J Gunnels Jr at Marak was almost totally destroyed by fire caused by a gas stove explosion. The blaze got out of control in minutes and neighbors saved only part of the contents. Neighbors have provided some household goods to Mr and Mrs Gunnels. He is the son of A J Gunnels Sr of Hanover.

Mark Thomas, third son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. White of Houston, was born at Herman Hospital at 12 18 p.m. Friday February 20. He weighed five pounds thirteen ounces. Mother Ruth Marek of Burlington. They will be at 2509 McClendon Street. Father reared in Cameron, veteran combat pilot. They have two older sons Jeffrey Alan, three, and Phillip Milam.

Kate Gaston Shaw 10 Buried in Cameron

Mrs. Kate Gaston Shaw widow of Dr. E N Shaw an early Cameron physician died Tuesday night at her Eagle Pass home. Her body will arrive in Cameron Thursday to be received by Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Survived by three children Dr. E N Shaw of Houston and Misses Dora and Sue Shaw of Eagle Pass.

Building permits in Cameron for January totaled 18180.00 announced by city Secretary W H Stafford. 1947 yearly total permits were 207919.00 and builders expect 1948 to be a banner year if materials are available and prices fall.

Widely Known Maysfield Citizen Dies at 73

E D Kelso a Milam county native and prominent Little River bottoms planter died at his Maysfield home on February 22 after a long illness. Born February 21 1875 he would have turned 71 soon. Funeral services were held February 23 at the Presbyterian Church in Maysfield with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery Cameron. Rev H M Bailey and Rev Gus Cravin conducted the rites. Surviving are his widow Berdie Massengale Kelso two daughters Mrs E R Land of Fort Worth and Mrs O J Curry of Denton three grandchildren. Pallbearers included Roy Massengale Robert Massengale Ralph Massengale Alfred Massengale Hugh Smith W S Kelso H L Yeager and Oscar Roberts.
