The Campbell newspaper press used by the Herald was sold to the Hondo Anvil Herald. Publisher William E. Berger of Hondo closed the deal in Cameron with pressman E. L. Thomas who will erect the press there. The press is in good repair and ready to run. Jesse Kirk will haul it to Hondo on Friday.

Budy Colorful Pioneer Found Dead Near Buckholts

John Andrew Russell 83 known as Swamp John Russell was found dead at his Buckholts area home along Lapan Creek around 1 p.m. Wednesday. A longtime Milam County hunter and trapper, he lived on a Buckholts farm and was famed for his knowledge of wild animal life.

Eight new airports proposed for Central Texas area

The Civil Aeronautics Administration releases a 1948 airport plan urging eight new airports and improvements to five others in Central Texas. Cities named include Temple Belton Burnet Cameron Gatesville Georgetown Hamilton Marlin Rockdale Taylor and Waco with proposals for Class 1 and Class 2 landing strips, taxiways, lights and admin building.

Bullitt Warns of Communist China Takeover Threat

Former ambassador William C. Bullitt told the House Foreign Affairs Committee that allowing communists to take over China would open the door to an attack on the United States by vast Stalin driven forces. He urged 100 million dollars for military supplies to China amid a debate on 570 million dollars in non military aid to Chiang Kai Shek. The Senate heard calls to ready U S defences and bolster Western Europe against communism.

Cameron Red Cross drive targets 2300 city quota

The 1948 Red Cross enlistment drive in Cameron began at a breakfast led by W. W. Lowe at the Milam Coffee Shop. Cameron aims 2300, county quota 6439, city split 1900 for business and 400 for residences. Shirley McLean chairs the city effort and plans canvassing this week. President Truman launched the national drive Sunday night.

Kansas Boy Sent Up for Burglary

Jay H. Yeadon a 21 year old war veteran was sentenced to two years in a Texas prison by a district court for the burglary of the Buddy Fuller station last fall. He confessed guilt saying the offense occurred December 23 1947 while he worked for a carnival company. He has prior offenses in Kansas including juvenile delinquency larceny and pistol carrying with no weapon case prosecuted.

Bank Robbery in Buffalo Nets $2000

The Citizens State Bank of Buffalo in Leon County was robbed of $2000 late Friday. A stocky man about 25 drove into a dead end road ten miles from town and escaped into the woods. He wore no mask and used a German sugar automatic, according to President Burroughs of the bank.
